I can tell you that this is the greatest FF I have ever played , and no matter what happens FFVIII is my favorite .

Some people say that the story is just a love story , but I really think they didn't play the game to the end . I agree that the love story in FFVIII is a lot stronger than most of other FFs , but FFVIII has its own world saving , evil fighting story . and I don't know what's the problem of some people with its love story .

the drawing magic may be boring sometimes but isn't leveling up in other FFs boring as well and the junction system maybe hard at first but you can always use the autojunction to easily junction your magics in the way you want .

Some people say that the characters aren't modified well but I think they are all well modified and you always can relate with them (If I'm using The right words) like (SPOILER)Squall being cold and appear selfish , Rinoa being warm and open on the other hand , Selphie's cheerful character , Zell being hot headed and short tempered , while Quistis being calm most of the time , And Irvine being the prev on the surface , and Seifer being the selfish one and teasing other (specially Zell) and all other characters that they have their right place in the story.

The only thing I can tell you (Like everyone were telling you before) is to play the game and decide for yourself that you like this game or not .

I would actually rather play X-2.
X-2 lacked the killing Rinoa fun factor.

No, I still have no love for Rinoa. *dodges bricks from Rinoa lovers*

However, I must say that while the game is flawed and had great potential that, in my opinion, was wasted, it can be pretty addictive. I've beat it a lot of times. Still not as often as FFIV and FFVI, but FFVIII is coming up there...

Yup I agree. The storyline absolutely blows me away. And the music is second to none, Eyes On Me is my mobile ringtone. The graphics are stunning and the cutscenes take the player through a torrent of emotions that no other game manages to create. Triple Triad, a challenging but easy to master card game offers a break from levelling up as well as being extremely beneficial as higher level cards can be refined into very rare and useful items. And to top it all off there is the beloved Selphie Tilmitt, the hottest animated character sine Betty Rubble. I honestly struggle to see a downside to VIII and strongly reccomend that you give it a thourough seeing to. :mog:

FFVIII was the first FF game I ever bought (Had borrowed and finished FF7 previously though). To be honest I never finished it until a few years later. I was still too young and the junction system confused me. I didn't really realise the enemies level up with you, so I ended up with an all round level 100 party with crappy junctions so I got my ass handed to me against the final boss.

The overall story is good, and it isn't simply a love story, that part of the game is just 3/4 of the 3rd disc, after fighting Edea, until you get Rinoa back in your party. The rest of the game is about killing Edea, killing Adel and killing Ultimecia however it's spelt. PWN THE SORCERESSES.

The junction system is great. It allows you to Have incredible power right from the start (like, the VERY start, before you do anything serious at ALL) thanks to cardmod. I had 300 tornado's, 300 meltdowns, 300 quakes and stuff - this allowed me to power through the game until getting the ragnarok, where I went and got Ultima and such. I even got The Lion heart before going to Galbadia garden.

The worst thing about the game is teh beginning in my opinion. The first disc is slow and the Laguna scenes annoy me. drawing magic is a pain in the ass, just like getting magic from cardmod/refine. once you have good magic and encounter-none, you can just walk through the storyline and it's incredibly amusing.

So, it's a good game. One of the lesser Final Fantasy's though. You need to dedicate time to it to enjoy it, and there WILL be areas of boredom and annoyance. DEFINATELY worth a play through though.

    I'm just replying without reading any of the posts after the original so excuse me if I repeat things that have already been said ^-^;;

    What system is it on?
    good cutscenes?
    likeable characters?
    worth the time to play?
It's on the PS1 and the cutscenes, characters, and whether the game is worth it or not is a matter of opinion

    Some helpful information:

You acquire magic by using the Draw command on monsters or at drawpoints and stock it like an item. You can use the magic and/or junction it to a particular stat.

The Junction system takes some getting used to, but it's not so difficult after you've been messing around with it for awhile. Easy to exploit though...once you have easy access to some powerful magic your characters are practically invincible.

Here's a little tip if you play:

Have your GFs learn Junction and Refining abilities ASAP. Items can be refined in to a LOT of magic.

great cutscenes...awesome characters with such diverse personalities....the main character is a badass....i mean it...just trying blowing everyone off that talks to you...its hard.....and yes, very much worth the time to play....in reference to the first response....though it may take a few minutes to find out how to junction well....junctioning will make your characters EXTREMELY powerful...dont ignore it if you play FF8
The lance strikes when it sees fit
Cutting the bonds of the ones we love
    In time all shall dissapear
    Leaving mass disillusion and despair
Some will find comfort in faith
    Struck by unbeheld horrors
Somewhat the vision of a wraith
We all lose the ones we love, the ones we didnt, and the ones we never got the chance to love
But if it wasnt for this lance, striking down its prey
The most beautiful emotion of all would be forever hidden
    Sorrow...

Whether you like or hate FFVIII comes down to preference. It isn't one or the other. Try it. You may find a great game, or a game that appears not so great to you. I personally liked the game, some others did not though...

This one was personally my favorite one. Not quite sure why, but I think it was the first one that I got really attached to before heading off into old school land and playing the rest of them.

You can find it for PSone pretty cheap these days. Graphically, the CG cutscenes are topnotch for those days, and still regarded as the best on the system. Also, the Guardian Force summon animations are some of the best in the series imo.

A lot of people don't like the junction system very much, but if you take the time and just do it, and do it right, your characters can become INSANELY powerful. In order to do that though, you're gonna have to rely on your GFs for quite some time in order to gain most of the helpful abilities you can use, so for some, having to rely on GFs is a burden.

Also, the Triple Triad card game is a blast! Super addictive imo.

FFVIII also has what I think is one the best, if not the best, FF soundtracks of em all. It's the only one to me where every single track is a standout track, and it was one the last memorable ones. Once X, or even IX, came around, the soundtracks just didn't have the impact they used to. (XII anyone? Name three memorable songs off of that game...didn't think so haha)

Give it a shot and see what you think. I don't think I love a game more than I do FFVIII.
