An idea for an awesome FF movie
The movie would bring back the main villains and characters from previous Final Fantasys and the plot would centre around a powerful crystal. Each character would have his own motives for wanting the crystal, and certain alliances would be made. It would obviously involve a lot of epic battles and it could have an interesting storyline if expanded further. And FF fans would love it.

2) Doubt it would ever happen, considering to get any ounce of character involvement (from all the games mind you) and any hint of a plot involving all the bad guys, in a single movie, would be impossible.
More likely would be another sequel to a game, or the actual game story itself, made into cinema.
Think back to AC, which only involved the characters of ONE game. How much time did the non-main characters get in the movie? Tifa got 1 solo fight scene (which only lasted about a minute), you had the Bahamut fight which involved all the characters from FFVII for what, 3 minutes? before Cloud climhazzard'd him. So 4 minutes out of the entire movie that gave the spotlight to the secondary characters (Tifa got a bit more non-combat scenes due to her closeness to Cloud). Imagine now trying to cram not just 1 games characters into the story, but 5-6 games worth, AND all the bad guys?

2) Yeah, thats true. Although FFVII:AC did waste so much time focussing on only Cloud. If they made it longer I think it'd still be possible, with a relatively simple plotline. But then again, designing each character would be expensive. Maybe if they only used a few games?
It would probably be better as a game though, as you said.
