If someone doesn't pick up my phone call even ONCE, my mind starts immediately rushing through various scenarios in which this person might be hurt, injured, car accident, mugged, dead, etc. I worry a lot.
For the internet, if someone I talked to regularly disappeared for more than 2 weeks without any sort of notice, I'd probably assume the same things about them that I assume about a IRL person who doesn't pick up their cell. And I'll keep on assuming that they're in some sort of bad situation until they come back to say that they're alive and well. After 6 months, I'd assume that they were dead, and I would be sad.
I'm sure that they're around somewhere else. And I would track them down and demand to know why they left abruptly. I'm sure there's a good reason, in the end.
I believe in the power of humanity.
I hardly ever think something drastic. Reasons for people leaving could probably be:
- Addiction to MMORPG or other games
- Having no internet connection
- Moving house and having no internet connection
- Got too busy with work or education
- Lost interest
In my early EoFF days my parents often got mad at me for being on the internet too long and disconnected my line. I managed to sneak on theirs (we didn't have wireless back then) sometimes.
Now if I'm not around... it's probably because I have nothing to say or just got too busy with everyday stuff.
I worry a lot, too. However, if it's somebody on the internet I'd probably just assume that they've found something better to do.![]()
