The first time I saw dogs/cats in clothes or costumes, it was funny. But when I think about it, would the animals like it? It's an unneccessary hassel in my opinion. Besides, I think having something that would cover the animal's ears might be a slight hindrance to their hearing abilities.
The most I would put on my cats or dogs (if I ever do become an owner of either of these) would be a nametag around their neck and a blanket in case they get cold. A nametag might be useful in case your pet gets lost or something and the nametag could be traced back to you.
To sum up, I don't really know if dressing up your animals is right or wrong, but it's just not my thing.

If animals don't approve of having clothes on them (especially cats), they are more than willing to let you know. If they're just a little unhappy or uncomfortable, you can tell.

I adore the hell out of cute kitty cats. They are my favorite animals ever and I want a thousand of them so they can cover me at night to keep me warm.
