Default Dusty Coffer (Or Chest Of A Table, Man)

I'm about ten hours into Final Fantasy XII at this point and I think I'm learning how to read the treasure tables in the strategy guide. There are no instructions on it in the guide, so I'm trying to teach myself. I want to make sure I've gotten it right but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on a lot of points.

The first column is, "No." I figured this out. This lets you know to which coffer on the map the table is referring.

The second column is, "App.%." I'm assuming this is the appearance rate of the coffer. However, I see coffers with a number such as 85% about 50% of the time which either means I'm wrong or I'm terribly unlucky. Considering how well I do in a casino and with contests, I'd lean toward the former.

The third and fourth are, "gil%" and "If gil." I have no idea what these mean, but I've figured out it has something to do with gil.

The next two are two percentages. I assume this tells you the odds of receiving a certain item. For example, on page 103 in the guide, coffer number 1 has a 50% chance of giving you a potion and a 50% chance of giving you eye drops. I must be wrong, though, because a lot of the time, I receive an item which isn't listed in the table.

The last three columns are the same as the previous three but with a certain item equipped. Since I don't have said item, I don't have to worry about these yet.

If someone could explain to me what I don't know and make right what I'm wrong about, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm fairly certain that the Gil% column means that the coffer has X percent chance of yielding gil instead of an item. Let's assume the chest is listed as a 50% chance of yielding gil. In the case, you may assume that means it has a 50% chance of yielding an item. For simplicity's sake, let's say that each of the two items (Items A and B) also has a 50% chance of appearing. This 50% chance assumes that an item does appear. So the breakdown is actually like this:

    50% chance of gil
    25% chance of Item A
    25% chance of Item B

Otherwise, you've gotten everything else figured out. The last three columns you mentioned just replace the other statistics while you're equipping the Diamond Bracer.

Also, don't trust the guide to be 100% right on every item in every chest. It's Brady Games, they're not exactly known for their accuracy.

All right. And then, "If gil" is the amount of gil said coffer contains if gil is indeed in it? And why are some marked as black and others as white on the map and the table?

I guess once these two questions are answered, I know exactly how to read it.

Correct. The If Gil column will tell you how much gil should pop up. White chests are the more common ones, correct? The white ones are chest that reappear no matter how many times you open them. Black chests will never reappear after you open them.
