I might be up for this. Is it easy to pick up how it works?

It isn't the easiest thing to pick up. It can be quite complex.

I would play if it was Type 2. I don't know squat about Vintage.

Type 1 is all cards all the time. Most good cards from the past have been constantly remade. I don't think they have depreciated any of the abilities over the years so you should be fine but you would have to explain new abilities and stuff to people like me who have not played since the end of 4th generation.
