Torture Films

So what do you think about film with a specific focus on torture?

I like horror films and certain slashers. You know, the survival instinct surge, the final defeat of the villain and all the rest of it. In the end it comes to being scary. I can't however sympathise with films like Hostel though. In all honestly, they're simply disgusting and ,other than showing how brave you to your 15-year-old friends, I fail to see the point in seeing them in the first place. Maybe somebody can clear me in.

I don't like it when the torture is in focus, but I don't mind torture being part of a movie with other qualities.

Anything with gratuitous torture turns my stomach. In fact, I'd prefer if a film didn't have any, but if it's actually necessary to the plot, fine. I can't stand the inclusion of torture just for torture's sake though. Whoever wants to view that seriously needs help.

I don't mind it too much. It's not my favorite or anything, but it's okay. Thriller or slasher types are sexier. But I don't get scared during any kind of movie or grossed out, so I can watch them all and eat cheese. I do get a sensation of "What was the point?" much more from torture porn flicks than any other kind of movie, though.

I'm not a big fan of any horror esque film, but these new torture have got to be the worst. My sister loves 'em, I got sick to my stomace just listening to it from the other room.

Agreed. In something like Ichi the Killer it makes sense and is awesome. When a movie exists solely FOR it however, it doesn't.

Or maybe Orientals just make better torture porn. Who knows?

Ummm... well, I wasn't really refering to "torture films" which are made for pornographic purposes. I still find them disgusting, but I guess some people get excited by that sort of thing. I do however have problems with imagining that most people who went into Hostel did it because they wanted to get the sexual climax of their lives.

Honestly, I just don't get what the bloody point is, except for proving that you're brave enough to watch it (proving you are underage).

No, torture porn doesn't mean it's for sexual purposes, it means it's gratuitous and has no redeeming features. It's just torture for the sake of watching torture, like porn is sex for the sake of watching sex.
