Play Final Fantasy VI Advance since you haven't played it yet, but for that reason alone.

The "Advance" remakes were really good, and definitely live up to the original experience, which is really something when you take into consideration all of Square's failed port projects to date. Though, as good as they may be, there is nothing like playing through the original games in their original formats. I still prefer to play Final Fantasy VI on my SNES because it's an extra wave of nostalgia that I can't get on any other platform.

If you're going to emulate it, though, I guess these things don't really hold.
