It's not that I'm saying it's incorrect, I'm just much more inclined toward the original spellings of the word; the presence of 'k' in both words make them sound unpleasant when spoken, in my opinion.

That's impossible, because they sound exactly the same.

I think out of force of habit I prefer 'magic' because it looks more 'correct' than 'magick' does, though as Kishi said, they are said exactly the same.

On the manufacted/manufactured front, it didn't really bother me. As with the different spellings for Technick and so forth, I just saw it as SE having a bit of fun with the English language and it seems more of a fantastical word that means the exact same as manufactured.

Technik and manufacted do sound somehow more fantasy-like and mysterious than technique and manufactured. So I can see why they did it.

Magick is normal, it's often spelt like that in real life I think, mostly in the past.

The presence of a 'k' just makes it more Ultimecia-friendly

Also, I can see the artistic/poetic beauty of the language used. It does make it hellishly difficult to follow though... it's somewhat better with the subtitles on, but it's still annoying having to pause the game all the time while the brain interprets and processes what was just said!

    Ah--

Perhaps I'm pronouncing them wrong, then. To me, 'magick' sounds just like 'magic' but with a stronger 'k' sound at the end. As for 'technick', it seemed to me that it was pronounced as it was spelled-- tech-nick-- when compared to the 'que' pronounciation in 'technique'.

It's all rather naive of me to assume, but I was just looking at it at face value.

Manufacted is just a big load of CRAP. How would Larsa like it if we dropped R's from his name? Eh? Now he's Lasa? Yeah, he wouldn't like that at all. The tables being turned is unpleasurable for all involved.
That's how Australian's speak. No joke. I really do say "Lasa" (Lah-sa)

I thought the words like 'manufacted', 'technik' and all the rest of them (we know there's tonnes in this game, I just fail to think of any more off the top of my head) were fantasy-esqe buzz words not dissimilar to FFX's use of the word 'Machina'.

'Manufacted' is actually quite a clever word... in the game, it means anything man-made. The contrast is 'deifacted', which means 'made by the Gods' or 'made by the Deities'.

This is evident from the contrast between manufacted and deifacted nethicite. Deifacted is naturally occurring, or rather created by the Occuria; manufacted nethicite is the artificial stuff. It's actually an ingenious play on those words, and helps to add to the artificial lexicon in the game.
i cannot stand it when they mispronounce marquis.
That bugged the hell out of me at first too - BUT is turns out that, in English, both pronunciations are equally valid.

FFXII's dialogue is a marvel that's almost without compare in the videogame world. It's shame that some of the richer details are going over players' heads...

    From dictionary.com
    mar·quis Audio Help /ˈmɑrkwɪs, mɑrˈki; Fr. marˈki/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[mahr-kwis, mahr-kee; Fr. mar-kee]

So, it seems that the dominant English pronunciation of Marquis is "mahr-kwis." I've always thought that Mahr-kee was really just the French variation of the word, meaning a French Marquis would be referred to as Mahr-kee. But, I expect if the word is French in origin (I'm not sure about that), then we might have a debate over whether or not one should 'frenchify' the word.

Bah...it's too late to explain myself clearly.

I also find the word 'Magick' annoying. Technick I don't mind so much, but Magick just looks tacky. God knows why I see one as okay and the other as not. I also found the "kurse you SeeD" k-thing in VIII annoying and pointless.

I just have one thing to say: Shut up.

...But I will elaborate. Many words like "Manufactured" and "Technique" originated from old latin or greek words that have spelling or pronunciation similarities, yes? Well that begs the question: what dictated the slight changes into these english words? I don't know the answer, but that's irrellivant. What you have to look at is that Ivalice is a different world from ours and that the "evolution of language", so to speak, would have occurred/developed differently.

Ever heard of the phrase "go with the flow"?
