Thread: Singers of The Past

    Default Singers of The Past

    So what singers from the past (as in were really popular back then, are currently old in age right now, or only sung back then and don't now) do you like?

    Mine would have to be Jackie Chan (yes, he is a singer), Barry Manilow (I think that's how you spell it), Bryan Adams, and Bill Cosby (unsuprisingly).

    I haven't heard of him much recently so I guess he's okay.

    Roy Orbison and Freddie Mercury. The best two voices ever, actually.

    Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Beatles. (shame on me)

    I'm wondering why you guys didn't question me about mentioning Bill Cosby.

    Pretty much all of my favorite artists fall into this category. :}

    Tom Paxton is 70 right now (still performing, though, and releasing a new album next month). Phil Ochs would still be playing right now were he not dead. He'd be 67. John Denver would be 63. James Taylor is 59, I think.

    So yeah, all of my favorite artists are "singers of the past." Paxton and Ochs weren't all that popular when they were young, but listening to them is an enlightening experience.

    There are many, but Ms. Holiday was definitely one of them. Others are: Kate Bush (still active, but still), Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Minnie Riperton, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash etc. etc. I know there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

    The Rat Pack, and the early-era Beatles (before all the hippie crap).
    Shirley Bassey had some good stuff too.
