    Default FFXII = FFVI

This may have been said before but did anyone else think of FF12 as an attempt to make a more realist version of FF6? An expanding empire with political in-fighting, a noble thief (Locke/Vaan), a lovable rogue with an airship (Setzer/Balthier), a flawed knight who had failed to save his king (Cyan/Basche), a dubius Cid scientist who works for the empire, and an ensemble cast rather than a star character.

Big lashings of Empire Strikes Back too!

They do seem quite similar but still have enough differences, and VI is still better.

If I was like Cloud I don't think I would have taken that test.
Changed to stop Jessweeee♪ from going insane. Is that better?

All FF's have characters and plot pieces that are similar to past ones... as far as creative direction, XII is artistically more like VI than any game that has come out since then... the game has alot more parallels to FFII though, probably b/c the exec. producers last contribution to the series was as director for FFII..

These are all well established fantasy archetypes that were around long before FFVI. It's not that FFXII is similar to FFVI as much as it is they both use similar story cliques.

The relationship with the main-characters is so much more in FFVI...

I do see some similarities. I think ultimately they're fairly different, but yeah...

This is a good topic, yea there may be some similarities.

Final Fantasy VI is my favorite game!
Recently beaten: Alundra 1, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Currently playing: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, Final Fantasy I
Will play next: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fallout 3(???)

I'd say 9 was more like 6, I didn't think this was anything like 6 really.

yeah sry but XII=VI when R=U...

    ...that's a "NO" ...

although that empire strikes back and the whole star wars is very much like FF XII... or rather FFXII is like SW...

Yeah I said it many times that 12=6. Even the name Espers. More but I've totally forgotten.

I would think this game was closer to Tactics and Tactics Advance than anything but that's just me.

I really didn't notice any similarities between VI and XII other than the name "Espers". The only similarities I noticed was stuff that I recalled seeing in Star Wars and FFT, FFTA

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"
