Default Al Bhed in Japanese version

Just a random thought I had. How many Al Bhed primers were there in the Japanese version of the game and did they function in a similar manner to the US version of the game?

There are still 26 of them, but they each translate sets of characters instead of just one each (as of course there are plen-tee more in Japanese)

What's interesting is that it's only the "consonant" sounds that are changed. All "vowels" remain the same.

WHAT? You mean they get speshul potions, and Crisis Core PSPs, and KH Final Mix, and a Serial Experiments Lain game, AND a pronounceable Al Bhed translation?
