I think most people can agree that Ashe is the heroine of the story.

Several characters blur the line between supporting character and leading character because of the ensamble cast and the lack of the player characters' involvement in the actual story. I would say that Vaan is merely the player character and that Balthier, Basch, or Larsa would fill a hero role more appropriately.

It depends on your definition of hero, too.
