Thread: Best Covers Ever

    Default Best Covers Ever

I wanted to shout out to Smashing Pumpkins' cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide", as I'm listening to it right now and I thought they did a pretty good job, despite the lead singer being male and all.

I like Nirvana's cover of Lake of Fire.
That's about all I can think of right now.

Johnny Cash - Hurt (Nine Inch Nails)
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)

Not the best ever, but two recent covers I found amusing, and suprisingly good:

The Darkness - Street Spirit (Fade Out) (Radiohead)
The Vines - Ms Jackson (Outkast)

It is very good, one of the best personally.
But the best is clearly Johnny Cash's "Hurt".

Blitzkrieg by Metallica - don't know who the original artist is
    Breadfan by Metallica - ditto
Turn the Page by Metallica - originally by Bob Seger

Higher Ground by the Red Hot Chili Peppers - originally by Stevie Wonder
All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix - originally by Bob Dylan (as mentioned above)
The Man Who Sold the World by Nirvana - not sure of original artist....was it David Bowie?
Blue Monday by Orgy - originally by some cheesy 80s band

That's all I can think of at the moment........

    I almost forgot.......

Cinnamon Girl by Type O Negative - Orginally by Neil Young

There are too many great covers to list.
My favourite cover band is the slovene band Laibach though.
They're not really a cover band, but each album contains lots of really interesting covers.
My favourite is probably their cover of Jesus Christ Superstar.

RHCP's - Higher Ground. (Stevie Wonder)
Metallica - Whisky In The Jar (Thin Lizzy, who in turn had essentially covered it from Dubliners/Pogues)
Turn the Page (Bob Seger) is also fab, as someone mentioned.
DJ Sammy - Boys of Summer (Remix) (Don Henley)
The Clash - I Fought The Law (The Crickets)

Billy does the best covers. I love Landslide but I'm going to have to say Zwan's cover of Don't Let me Down by The Beatles is even better.
