I kind of liked how it began out. For like the first few hours my sister, my brother, and my self were playing through it and we didn't think there was a world map, it was kind of a mind blower to see how much they added into just going through a single city (actually part of a city, we never fully explore Midgar, let alone all of it at the start.)

I admit, Midgar was really SLOW. :rolleyes2 Try playing through the whole of it without saving!![]()

Yeah, the beginning of VII is pretty dull compared to the rest of the game, and even more so compared to IX, whose beginning is my favourite part of the game.
Ithink its much better once your on to the world map becasue theres much more to do and places to explore, but i always enjoy the start of being stuck on a set path of VII, it did have an interesting story of how things developed, its also nice easy start where you havent got to remember to much like collecting enemy skills and so on![]()
If I was like Cloud I don't think I would have taken that test.
Changed to stop Jessweeee♪ from going insane. Is that better?
I guess it was OK, but then again, I haven't played FFVII in a long time. I need to refresh my memory on that.
Yeah, and you also thought the first quarter of FFVI was the end of the game.
I feel like it started like any RPG, a slow enough pace to keep you learning the system but enough random drama to keep you going through the slowness.
i don't think there's anything wrong with the beginning at all, it's just that every last one of us has overplayed it so much that its become mundane!
i'm the same with the 1st disc of ff8
Why do you imprison your saviour?
Boring? Hell no, when it came out as my first PS game. I loved it all the way from the start to the end.
I really enjoyed this game specially because of the fights ^^ (even though I hated mp I ended up playing it and enjoying the battles! ^^
I agree, after a few playthroughs the start got boring.

I do appreciate the level of effort put into Midgar though. A shame we couldn't fully explore it. [We never got to set foot in the upper sectors, did we?]
Like any game though, some parts dragged and others didn't. I think most people find the start boring because once you know what happens later on, it's pretty pointless.
I agree with Sarc and Phoenix - after playing it a bunch of times, i sometimes want to speed through Midgar as fast as possible. One of my last playthroughs, the game really got going for me with the Flashback at Kalm. Although I have to admit, I think the opening sequence and mission in VII is the greatest RPG intro of all time.
Actually, I have always enjoyed the beginning of FF IX. Though eventually it will get boring.
Though someone mentioned it was their first, so of course the beginning won't seem that bad. We who have been RPing since the SNES or before realize the begining of FF VII isn't exactly the most amazing thing ever.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the beginning too. But there just isn't anything amazing about it.
