Any indication that Squall and Selphie like each other in this game? Because there sure are a lot of fanfiction stories about them. I never completed Final Fantasy VIII because the game would always freeze up on me during disc 3 when a hypnotized Rinoa opens a tomb in space...But I don't ever remember Squall and Selphie speaking to each other in a friendly manner.
I don't recall anything, though it's been years since my last play through. Besides there's a bajillion fan-fics where 2 characters that had NO romantic involvement in the series hook up. Really a good rule of thumb is to look at a fan-fic, recognize the characters, then realize the rest of it is probably made up and has no basing on the original story.

No, I don't think so at all. Fanfiction allows the fans to do what they want with a character and undoubtedly some fans wanted to see Squall and Selphie get together. After all, I'm sure there's plenty of Squall-Seifer romantic pairings out there so...

I've made a transcription of the game text, and talked the living daylights out of NPCs, and a Squall/Selphie relationship isn't hinted at ever. Seems to me that Squall eventually likes her as a friend but still doesn't hold her in the highest regard. <shrug>
They're too different. Sure, they are good friends, but not lovers. Squall has Rinoa and Selphie has Irvine.
Well, I'm too lazy to look through transcriptions, but it seems to me that at the beginning of the game when Selphie runs into Squall and asks for a tour of Balamb Garden she kinda likes him. I could never see the two of them having a functional relationship, though.
i always like the sephie/squall pairing better then rinoa more fun

I think they shared a dorm for like a day and he gives her some advice about the garden, but there isn't really anything going on.
The way it is is; Quistis <3's Squall, Squall eventually <3's Rinoa, and develops a sort of akward friendship with Quistis, but they never seem to comfortable around each other

Selphie's really nice toward Squall near the start of the game, but it's mainly optional dialogue. She's grateful if Squall gives her a tour of the Garden, and later Squall can volunteer to help out with the Garden Festival, either before or during the ball. She's also quite complimentary to Squall about his formal uniform...
It's not much, but then again the fanfiction authors have never needed much material to invent a relationship.
Yeah. People like that decide who they're going to have sleep with whom before the games even come out.
I've suggested this before but the manga Imadoki gives a good feel for what a Squall/Selphie relationship would have been like. It would be fun, but also a different game.
