I wish I had that kind of money to blow on video games. I hope he plays it, why spend that much just to gawk at it?

I'd say the reverse is true. Why spend that much if you're going to play it? You could easily pirate the game or find a legit copy for well under $100. I think it's crazy to pay 1200 bucks for a game, but the worst thing to do would be to open it and reduce it's value tremendously.
