Thread: EoFF starts a club in Football Manager 2008 (See new thread)

Okay guys, I've got the club sorted out. Time for players and staff...

Let me know what player type you want to be. The first people to post will get the best player of their type. The options are (using the best players - current ability-wise)...

    Goalkeeper - smittenkitten
    Goalkeeper
    Defender (Center) - Heath
    Defender (Center) - Old Manus
    Defender (Center)
    Defender (Center)
    Defender (Right, Center) - Ouch!
    Defender/Wingback (Left) - Cz
    Defender (Right)/Defensive Midfielder - Burtsplurt
    Wingback/Midfielder (Left)
    Midfielder (Center) - Rocket Edge
    Midfielder (Center)
    Midfielder (Center)
    Attacking Midfielder (Left) - blim
    Attacking Midfielder (Right)
Attacking Midfielder (Right), Striker - Psychotic
    Striker - DK
    Striker - Jess
    Striker
    Striker

We'll be aiming to have a 4-4-2 side with a Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Striker and one other player on the bench.

Likely available first-team positions: Two center midfielders, one right-sided defender/wingback and one left-sided defender/wingback.

Striker! I usually go for a defender in these things but seeing as I am rockin' the mighty Wanchope name I have to live up to the mighty goalscoring record.

    Attacking Midfielder (Right), Striker

I would like to be a Goal Keeper please. :mog:

I usually played as centre back when I used to play football, so put me as that.

By the way: Feel free to offer up ideas on how we will deal with players during transfer windows. There are loads of possibilities.

The problem, if you're not aware of it, is that if we come to a transfer window we may find ourselves with players who are wishing to leave the club or are no longer good enough to stay. This will obviously include our players. The options are...

    1) Allow people to 'move' between players. At each transfer window, we will all have the chance to have our existing player renamed to something else and for ourselves to take over a different/new player within the squad, which will obviously be renamed.

    2) New players brought in must be renamed to something such as "BoB-2", almost like a machine being named. This is the 'new model of BoB' or something.

    3) We edit the existing players so that they are no longer crap or no longer want to leave our club.

    4) You guys come up with a better idea.

Let me know what you think! So far I'm thinking I'll go with option #1. It will make transfer windows even more interactive!

#2 is a no for me. #1 or #3 would work fine, but #1 would probably be the least effort.

If we go for #1, I'm half tempted to rename the old players to banned/inactive EoFF once-regulars.

EDIT: Further updates for those who didn't already know: General Gaming Stadium has been renamed to Aiyonfield. Our NPC manager is Paul Ince, who we stole from the MK Dons. Obviously this won't matter a huge deal because I'll take over the manager position. Graham Souness is now manager of the MK Dons (in place of Ince). He speaks fluent Swahili and doesn't do much else. The reserves are now known as The Failridden instead of the main team. I was considering filling it with banned members, but to be honest it's too much work considering I'd have to create the reserves (they are otherwise randomly generated in FM2008, I believe)...

The only problem with #1 that I can see will be the different stats of the players coming in. So maybe you will have to do a little bit of editing after all.

  12. #57
Hmm, fair point. Maybe I'll just end up setting it up so that I only change names and leave all other attributes of a player. It would make it less personal, but at the same time it would make things a lot smoother and should hopefully remain just as interesting.

EDIT: Okay, here's a massive spanner in the works for us all. You can't edit a saved game in FM2008. There goes that idea. Damn.

I cannot see 3 working as it is very hard to make players want to stay

Eh, can you not just edit it in the database? Works for me when i create a super-brentford. Are you using the right database when starting the game?

Also, i want £1500 p.w. or a transfer to Brentford

  14. #59
You can edit the database, yes. But you can't edit saved games, and (to my knowledge, I'll double check this using my old game) you can't access databases that reflect the saved game through the editor - you can only access the starting database.

Right, i understand what you mean now. The only option i can see then is to start higher (i.e. Championship) with players that will cut it in the premiersh*t, maybe editing so they all have the club as their favourite to encourage them to stay.
