Default How are initial stats and stat growth determined?

I was reading an FAQ for Dragon Warrior that detailed how your character's stats for the entire game are based on what name you give him in the beginning. See here: GameFAQs: Dragon Warrior (NES) Names/Stats/Levels FAQ by akira slime

Is there anything similar in Final Fantasy I? If so, how does stat determination and stat growth work in this game?

Ah, thanks so much! Now I don't have to worry about what I name my characters.

Not a problem. Unlike some people here at least you thanked me.
