I'm getting stationed in Hawaii. No not at Pearl Harbor (I've been asked that question several times), but at Kaneohe Bay. I leave for Hawaii March 17 after being sent home to Minnesota for free leave. They seem to consider Hawaii overseas, not that I can really complain about that. Anyway, I suppose the main point of this is to find out what anyone who has been to Hawaii has to say about it. I know it is expensive to live there, which is why I'm glad I'll be on base.
I'm 20 minutes from Honolulu, so I'm sure that'll get boring pretty quick. And only one person I know from school here will be going with me.

Anyway, so Hawaii, is it awesome, is it not. Tell me please.

Maui is hands down the nicest place on Earth that I've ever been, although my travel experience is certainly limited. I want to go back very, very much. Consider yourself lucky to be there for an extended period of time.

I didn't really enjoy hawaii. There were way too many tourists about. The weather was nice and there were interesting things to see, but the people just ruined it.

It is indeed a state, and it's a cluster of volcanic islands like two thousand miles from nowhere, in the middle of the Pacific. Hawai'i can also be pronounced "tropical island paradise".
