    I have no idea what 'Siedge Weald' or 'Balias Tor/Swale' mean. I just know them for the places they are, like 'I'm going to fight in the woods or the valley..' Mount Bervenia/Germinas sound better.

    I knew that tor meant mountain. The archaic language adds a nice flavor to the game but it's going to be hard for me to switch to using the new translation as I've used the old one for years now.

    I regret that the archaic language was not used in the localization process a long time ago, as I was able to expand my vocabulary far beyond a normal child because of Final Fantasy games.

    I agree that the archaic language may seem too rigid for some people; however, I think that it adds a historical, medieval feel to a game that clearly suffered in its first localization. I am glad that the localization process has evolved to the point that outside services are used to verify and establish information used in the localization process, too.

    I look back on the times I griped about the PSX version's translation issues very fondly, because even though parts were annoying and nebulous, they were still endearing in the end. The refined ye-olde-English revamp isn't anything I would've opted toward or supported, much less the completely unnatural character name changes. Argath Thadalfus? Folmarv? Ugh.

    It has been very hard for me to adapt to the new translation. I doubt that I will ever refer to terms from Final Fantasy Tactics using the new translation over the old translation only because they are too different —

    Another thing I noticed that was changed... or perhaps its just been too long since I played the original. During the course of the story where you battle Gafgarion at Lionel Castle, you get a battle where you get to play as Delita protecting Ovelia at the Zeikeden Falls. I don't remember this scene in the original...

    I'm surprised no one has noticed this yet, but they changed all the job levels required to gain access to a new class. I just got my copy and started playing but what I've noticed is:

    The following require lv3 instead of lv2:
    Knight -> Monk
    Archer -> Thief
    White Mage -> Mystic
    Black Mage -> Time Mage

    The following require lv4 instead of lv3:
    Monk - Geomancer
    (I'm speculating that this also applies to Lancers/Mediators and Summoners)

    Yes. That was not present in the original version of the game.

    I think that those may be the original requirements for classes from the Japanese version of the game.

    The North American Playstation release has a much lower difficulty level than the Japanese Playstation release because many small changes were made to things like class prerequisites.

    I had noticed that a few of the abilities had different JP costs (talk about having spent too much time playing this game). Did they completely match the PSP release to the Japanese release, or was it just selective things?

    I am not completely sure. Someone can check on this by verifying the ability point cost of Fly from the Bard and Dancer job classes — in the Japanese version of the game, the ability was 5,000 job points — so if they match up, they matched the localization with its Japanese counterpart.

    Yes, but with additional jobs and characters, multiplayer modes, new battles, and some miscellaneous tweaking.

    IIRC some of the tweaking involved removing the glitchs.
