Let me see what I can find that is comparable.
CDW Product Overview: Sony VAIO® BX740NS6 - $1150 without office and those other programs.
Due to this being through a school they probably have a deal with whoever is giving out the computers. So they probably get the OS, Vista and other stuff at more of a discount but that is also probably offset by the 3 year warrenty anyway.
I put the computer at $1000. It might be worth less(but not much less) by the time you start school with quad processors on the way.
