Default Valkyrie Profile Gets DS Spin-off

RPGamer - News Bulletin - Valkyrie Profile Gets DS Spin-off

It was announced today that tri-Ace, the company responsible for developing the Star Ocean series, is hard at work on producing Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One. Little is known about this spin-off, aside from what can be gleaned from a scan and a couple images.

The main protagonist in the game, Wilfred, is out for revenge against the gods and Valkyries that he so despises. In a sort of catch-22, he is enabled to seek his revenge against the gods via a gift from Hel, Goddess of the Underworld. Traveling with the intrepid hero are his friend Ansel, and a soul from the underworld, Elise.

    Vaan - "Hey, you!"
Penelo - "Yeah, you! The one reading this sig at this very moment!"
Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Well if current TriAce standards (lowering thereof) are anything to go by the game will be about seventy hours long, sixty-nine of which will be spent running from village to village and the last hour will involve fighting mecha-versions of all the previous Einherjar from, like, Dimension X or something. And there'll also be a six hundred and sixty six floor dungeon to complete once you've reloaded your saves enough times trying to refine one item needed for it.

    Apart from that, I'm optimistic!

Seems like this could be a more traditional RPG go at the Valkyrie Profile world. I like it. Eagerly awaiting juicier details.

I'm not too excited about this game. Probably because it doesn't centre around one of the Valkyries. I'd rather they spent their time doing a game about Hrist.

While I really enjoyed VP:Lenneth, I felt that VP: Silmeria was a complete let down, so I can agree with this post.

If Hrist isn't in it, I don't think I'll buy it. Though, since I don't have a DS and my sister does, I might borrow hers and buy it if it draws my interest more.

I was looking forward to Valkyrie Profile: Hrist. I think that it would be a very unique story compared to the other two games, but I think that this might be an interesting take on the series, too. I wonder if this game will take place in the Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth world or the Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria world?

It seems that Hrist is the most zealous of the Valkyries... I'd LOVE to see a game based on her.

Yes, in the first game, Hrist is shown to the player only as a darker persona and gives the player a notion of what could've been. In the second game, Hrist is shown to be a much deeper character than initially anticipated and joins the party at various points in the game, so —

(SPOILER)The endings of the games leave little room for a sequel centering on Hrist.
