No, really though, I used to slash characters left and right. Not usually in video games, but I think I still have cloud/sephiroth and aeris/tifa as LJ interests (I really must fix that). Part of it has to do with having fun looking for subtext. Actually, most of it did. Though a part of it also has to do with sexualising the characters, yes.
I've mostly grown out of that phase, but I'll still look twice at two people who seem to be filling the air with UST no matter the sex of either of the characters.
*I have seen a Harry/WW fanfic (though I didn't read it due to fear), and I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, so the mockery here was said in jest.
