    What's in a Name

What does your first name mean and what country and/or name does it originate from?

My name means "daughter" in Hindi which is pretty lame, but true. Of course, the country it originates from is India, but I always thought it originated from a Russian name.

Kari means Pure, not sure what origin though. Middle name means Graceful. Last name means Royalty.

Kari Ann Reigle = Pure, Graceful Princess?

Where is the "Hell, my name probably means nothing important." option?

    Mine means

Fair or Good-looking. Handsome. Also could be the name of a leader.

My parents just picked it cause it was short, and I have a tricky last name

When used as a first name instead of a nickname, Gaby is, according to most naming sites/book, a masculine name. It is short for Gabriel, which means "strong man of God" in Hebrew.

Since my brother is the one who suggested my name, he is to blame for naming his little sister with a guy's name. I have considered changing it to "Gabrielle" legally, but it's expensive, there's too much paperwork involved, and one of my mother's brothers is named Gabriel.

    Paul means small.

Time for a pre-emptive strike: Your mom didn't seem to think so.

I'll go look that up, but I think this is some kind of ploy to get everybody's First Name. Here's the specs on it according to 27,000 Baby Names, Meanings and Origins at Baby Names World

    Nicolas
    Origin: Greek
    Meaning: Victory of the People

    Nico (My Nick-Name)
    Origin: Greek
    Meaning: Victory of the People

I honestly don't think this site is very accurate. It claims Nico is normally used in Dutch and English speaking countries, but I distinctly remember my Father telling me "Nico" was a very common name in Spain and Italy.

Kentarou, that site fails at giving the real meaning of a name. It has mine completely wrong!

My name comes from a Hebrew prophet. However, I'm pretty sure my parents just did it for the lulz.
