The word "hippie" is used to describe someone with a peaceful ideology that spread rapidly during recent time periods, alongside certain other habits now illegalized. However, to put the two together to say that one with those types of ideologies may also do other things that are easily mockable merely allows one to mock another person for the sheer fact that they want to improve the world to the peace we all want.

It's sorta like how I hate the word "emo".

they didnt work, smoked pot, drunk their asses off and spend their time either at concerts or on the road in a stupid van..

what a contribution to the world that was.

In the immortal words of Stan march: "You can talk about all this stuff, but why dont you actually do something about it?"

and the public transportation.. a joke.. I spend 70% of the 45 minute busride to college in an empty bus besides me and the driver.. now there is your waste of fuel, right there.

That word may have been of importance in the past, but now it can't be used for much more than ridicule for how things played out in those times. From what I've seen at the public school I went to, if anyone really pushed for anything like saving power, respecting the rights of animals, or anything anti-war, they were basically dubbed hippies or some other similar term for this, despite those being positive goals. Today, the word "hippie" bears no real meaning, and is merely a slightly bendable word that's mostly used as ridicule towards someone you don't feel like listening to, unless you're speaking historically, in which case you'd probably want to avoid such slang anyway.

But at this point, I'm being the biggest spoil-sport ever. :o
