Eyes on Final Fantasy is promoting playthroughs of the Final Fantasy games, too, marysonnie. We are replaying the Final Fantasy games in chronological order together in the Eyes on Plays events.

Oh I should mention that I read in an interview the other day more information about Final Fantasy XIII. I already knew that they started to work on it in early 2004 for PS 2 and then later switched it to the PS 3. But in the interview it appears that they are saying that they started mostly from scratch when stopping the PS 2 version and going to PS 3. Of course the story and the music wasn't changed but it seems like almost everything else was thrown out or something. They switched from PS 2 to PS 3 sometime around E3 2005 when the FF VIII PS 3 Technical Demo came out I believe.

I've been researching some more, and they say that Final Fantasy Agito XIII is going to come out for the "4G" cellphone system/standard, which isn't out yet in Japan but might be out in 2010. We'll have to wait a while for that game also! As far as Final Fantasy Versus XIII goes, it will probably be out a year after Final Fantasy XIII. If FF XIII is out Fall 2009 then I think FF Versus XIII will be out Fall 2010.

By the way, I consider it extremely unlikely for FF XIII and FF Versus XIII to be out in the first 7 months of the year in Usa, main FF games don't get out until late August-December I see. So maybe if it's not out this Fall(FF XIII has a worldwide simultaneous release date), then we can be assured that we wouldn't get it until atleast Mid-August 2009!

    I'll continue my research!

^FFXIII doesnt have a worldwide simultaneous release date. SE has said that they would like to have one, but they say it may not be possible.

"They said this day would never come. They said our sights were set too high. They said this country was too divided, too disillusioned to ever come around a common purpose. But on this January night, at this defining moment in history, you have done what the cynics said we couldn't do." - Barack Obama.

I do not think that Final Fantasy XIII will have a simultaneous, worldwide release date. Has there been any word on that type of release outside of one interview?

    In short, no.

Although the trailers at TGS had English voice overs, which bodes well.

The trailers at the Tokyo Game Show had English voice acting? Did the characters speak in any of the trailers, or do you mean that the narration was in English? Was it a native speaker?

Okay, maybe I'm thinking of The Last Remnant simultaneous international release date.

Maybe some members of the team were busy since they helped out a little with some Kingdom Hearts stuff and Compilation of Final Fantasy VII stuff. Maybe there is some problem in the development. What are your theories on this? I'm excited!

Who knows, judging from the jump from SNES to PSX and how many people are in love with FFVII, FFXIII could end up being like what FFVII was to the previous generation consoles. If you want to REALLY look at the numbers...the jump from SNES to PSX/PS2 doubled the development time...the jump from PS2 to PS3 also appears to be doubling the development time...and of course, they ARE working on 2 different versions of the same game, so it's nothing to really worry about, but something to really look forward to. The amount of time it's taking may be the reason why they put Versus on hold, just so as they can get the basic FFXIII into the market before it goes too sour, and then release Versus once everybody's had a chance to play XIII through and have something to compare to. It makes a LOT more sense in terms of the people that are waiting to pounce on these games the moment they're released, and it also makes sense in terms of SquareEnix making a crap-load of money off the two games.

I hear that FF XIII is planned and/or estimated to be as huge as Final Fantasy VII and/or Final Fantasy I or something. Between FF VI and FF VII, Square made the Final Fantasy VI: Interactive CG Game, that took some months of development. Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a seperate game from Final Fantasy XIII, they just take place in the same universe with the same mythology. The development teams for each game are different, except both have the same character designer, and probably the same scenario writer. The rumor about FF Versus XIII was declared false by Square Enix right after it came out, interesting rumor. Expect FF XIII to be out in Fall 2009 in Usa and one year later for FF Versus XIII. This is great!

Oh the various reasons for the delay in releasing Final Fantasy XIII(six year development cycle expected roughly)
    1. They started working on it in late 2003 or early 2004 for PS 2, but after making the FF VII PS 3 Technical Demo for E3 in late Spring of 2005, they restarted development, using PS 3, and only some of the work carried over, most had to be restarted.
    2. They are finishing up working on the Crystal Tools(White Engine) development tools kit, this took a bit of time.
    3. I hear that Playstation 3 is difficult to program for, this may cause a delay.

Anyways, now I'm wondering if after Final Fantasy XIII is out, will Square Enix want to develop FF XIV for PS 3 or Xbox 360, we'll have to see about this.

It's highly doubtful that FF will go to Xbox. Simply because SquareEnix has already agreed to an Xbox-only RPG with Microsoft. It'll probably just be another gimmick to create a bit more competition between the two consoles...

What Xbox 360 only rpg do you mean? If you mean The Last Remnant, it's eventually coming out for PS 3. If you mean Infinite Undiscovery that's a Tri-Ace developed game that Square Enix publishes.

It's strange how in this generation of games there are great rpg's available or coming out for PS 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. There is no single dominant rpg console this generation.

Oh by the way, the Final Fantasy XI team is working on a new Mmorpg, code named "Rapture". I wonder if this will eventually be called Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII or Final Fantasy XIV. Let's see if they announce this game at E3 or Square Enix's event in early August.

I tought I should bring this up and cheer up some people.
It's not helping the long wait.
(Didn't they said something about waiting in there trailer?)

The truth is that Square didn't worked on FFXIII during a certain amount of time. (4 months? Half a year?)
At the time, Square said they've placed the FFXIII (the entire FNC project) to work on multiple handheld games and stuff.

Also, when Square announced that the Versus team was helping in the FFXIII game, it didn't meant any delays for FF V XIII, but that the Versus team would help whenever they had the time.

At least the Versus game hasn't had any delays...
