Default Mature Content in Writers Corner

I have been a member here for sometime and even though I am very into writing I don’t post very often in the writers corner. One of the reasons I don’t post often in writers corner is some of my stories are a bit strong and often filled with adult themes and very strong language. I have refrained from posting due to the fact that the rules state to avoid strong language in excess and I would rather not edit the story and making it less raw as I feel this would talk much away from the atmosphere of the story.

I personally think there should be a section in the writers corner where more mature stories could be placed. While obviously there would be nothing pornographic, more mature stories with adult themes and strong language could be posted. All posts in that thread would have disclaimers at the beginning telling readers what to expect, and warning people who might take offence to stay away.

    What do you think?

In my own experiences, it's usually fine as long as you place a warning at the beginning of your post. A separate section isn't really necessary; just tell the reader what they're getting into beforehand and everything should be alright. As long as its not pornographic, and you don't mind certain profanities being auto-filtered, I don't see the problem.

That’s another thing, the swear filters. I think that filtering out F--- for Smurf can really take someone out of a story. I understand that this is not a big deal, but I think that if there was a sub-forum for more mature stories, that the chat filter should be disabled (only for that particular sub forum).

Then provide a link to a location where you're hosting your story and supply a warning that there's mature language in the linked story.

As Ouch! said, I think within reason a degree of 'mature content' is fine to a certain degree within the Writer's Corner, provided there is due warning before the work itself and/or in the title.

As for the swear filter, I'm not sure whether it's possible to have it disabled for a single forum. However if it really merited it, it might be worth considering if it's genuinely getting in the way for a great many people. As it is, I think provided you okay'd it past a staff member getting around the swear filter would be more acceptable provided it was artistic purposes. Alternatively you could link to writing off the site (e.g. on Deviant Art) and get around it that way.

Edit: Damn iSketch. Mullet beat me to it.

If you feel the need to bypass the swear filter, then add your story as an attachment. Also, you should add MATURE to the title in case some of our younger members come across it. There is currently no need to create a subforum for mature content. Thank you for your feedback.

I can see why EoFF want to be family-friendly considering how many children play video games. I generally post my more mature stories on other sites where there are less restrictions.

I was under the impression that part of the reason behind completely filtering the f-bomb out of the board completely had something to do with the ads we run to build revenue for the site. I could, of course, be mistaken.

Regardless, if you truly believe that the filter would get in the way of the work (I would agree in certain cases), then, as others have suggested, posting your story as an attachment, or linking to a place where you've hosted it, is always an option.

I was under that impression as well and eluded to it in HarleQuin's Porn Forum idea (in so much as the forums have to be relatively clean and family friendly for the adverts), though I can't say I'm entirely clear on the degrees (if there are any) to which such language is acceptable. Even still, I stand by my suggestion of just linking to it off site if the language has that much artistic value that the piece would be ruined without it.

I'm also supporting the "link off-site" suggestion. Places like deviantART, for example, have filters that make sure no one under 18 sees something with mature contest. You could then post your entry without worrying about the filters, and without worrying about someone underage reading your story and getting their parent upset at you, as well as the staff, for not properly blocking the content.
