The background on my computer is a screen shot from WoW. It's pretty much a skyscape from Nagrand because some of the stuff they did with the sky in the Outlands is just so pretty.
Not really the whole world, but I'd love to live in Keterburg from Tales of the Abyss. The snowy world and stuff is pretty. Plus there's a casino and I got really, really good at the poker game. Seriously I wasted a lot of time in the casino in the game. That whole world is nice though. I could see myself sightseeing in Grand Chokmah or playing the balloon game in Batical.
I would say Gensokyo, but only a select few of you would know what I'm talking about.
Touhou Gensokyo Rensa :33?
I'd have to think on it first.
EMBODIMENT OF THE SCARLET DEVIL <3333333333333333. And other Tohou. But that's my favourite.
Anyways, I really like the world that Lunar SSSC / EB take place in. Epicly wonderful. I also really like Final Fantasy IX's world, Syberia's world, Cave Story's world, and Rudra no Hihou's world.
Done~
GOTHIC. GOTHIC GOTHIC GOTHIC. GOTHIC GOTHIC GOTHIC GOTHIC GOTHIC.
Also Fallout.
Ivalice.
I have to say that Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII had great maps, even if they are old by today's standards. You may not get to really roam around in the way of seeing every tree like you do in some other games, but you do get to cover the entire world, and to me, that's important. I hate having boundaries on "world maps".
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
All of the Final Fantasies have had great worlds, but also Shadow of the Colossus.. the atmosphere in that game was amazing.
I've always thought ff8 had a great world
everything is wrapped in gray
i'm focusing on your image
can you hear me in the void?
The clear-cut winner for me is Beyond Good & Evil's Hyllis. The place is beyond gorgeous, and everything about it is designed expertly to involve you completely. It made me truly care about the place; Hyllis and its people were a prize more than worth liberating, and I can stay on the cliff at the Lighthouse and stare out at the seascape for hours.
Lea Monde from Vagrant Story is amazing. The architecture, the intricacy, the atmosphere...
The Panzer Dragoon world is absolutely mind-blowing. Especially Saga's Lake Uru.
Ico's castle and the Forbidden Lands in Shadow of the Colossus. They never fail to inspire awe.
Thus far, Okami's world is wonderfully designed, definitely top-tier.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time's palace and surrounding areas are amazing. It doesn't hurt that SoT has THE best puzzle design in any game, ever.
Final Fantasy X's Spira is one of the most well-thought out game worlds ever. The locations themselves are incredible, but it's really the people that make it what it is. The Yevon religion has a real gravity and history, and the world really feels lived-in. Incredible stuff.
Those would be my top-tier, although there are others I have enjoyed.

Currently playing: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
I'm highly tempted to say Pre-Searing Guild Wars Prophecies, Ascalon is breath-takingly beautiful. Especially areas like Wizards Folly and the Northern Expanse
