My baby's getting old!

I was playing my SNES the other day and I noticed that some parts of the plastic casing haven't stood up to the test of time as well as other parts. I'm bummed because it's never been exposed to direct sunlight and I store it in a closet when it's not being played. The discoloration makes it look so old.

Does anyone else have any old toys or gadgets that are showing their age?

It is always that specific top part of the plastic too XP When I worked at gamestop I think just about every SNES had that exact same discoloration XP Weeeeiiirrrd

I have some old transformer toys that look like total crap now XD

My Metroid 2 game is that color too. If I still had my old GBC it'd probably be discolored too.

whereas my nes which has not been taken care, has been left in the attic during hot hot hot summers etc, looks perfect.

Um, my favorite stuffed animal is pretty much almost rotted to threads ;o

My SNES looks as new as it did the day I got it (around 12-13 years ago). My PS2, however, takes forever to load a game/DVD. I'm assuming it's because it's old.

Out of curiosity, I pulled out my NES and Gameboy as well. My NES looks okay, considering it's 20 years old. My Gameboy looks awesome though, as if it just came out of the box. I guess Nintendo cut some corners with the SNES to save money on manufacturing.

The original A/C adapter has a short in it so I had to buy a replacement to use, but other than that it's running smoothly.

I just read an article on this a few days ago. This same thing happens with some Mac computers. It has to do with the plastic they used to produce the system during a certain time period. The bottom half was produced at a different time, as we can clearly see. I'll go look for that article.

I think that certain types of plastics are more prone to discoloration than others. I have a friend with a Super Nintendo and it has the same type of discoloration as seen in the opening post, and I wonder if there is some sort of solvent to correct the problem.
