I think I've just summarised every post that'll be made in this thread, so no-one else needs to bother now
I loved FFVIII cause of the characters. They actually seemed the most real to me and the easiest to connect to. Sure the story was a bit absurd at times, but the characters themselves were awesome. People can hate on Squall all they want, but he has been the most realistic lead character.

Although I agree, I think some amount of wondering what they were thinking is justified. I try to ignore the rankings, and when I do, I can generally see almost every character they've listed making a top 25 list, but then they add Jecht? I'm glad that someone from tactics made the list.
I look forward to finding out whether or not Rydia from Final Fantasy IV will place on the Top 25 Final Fantasy Characters. I think that she has the most extensive fanbase of any character in all of the earlier Final Fantasy games, and it would be unfortunate to see her excluded from the Top 25 Final Fantasy Characters.
