This is seriously so sad and messed up.

It takes a really low, shallow, f-ed up person to do something like this.

Oh come on, she did it for the lulz.
I like Kung-Fu.
I read about that weeks ago. It was epic lulz
Also, I find it highly unjust to be prosecuted for the actions of another person, who performed self inflicted harm. However the "victim" and I use the term loosely was a minor, so perhaps a case could be made; Sadly.
This is older then Jesus riding a dinosaur.
Why?
If you intend harm to another person through your actions, and that harm comes about as a direct result of your actions, then you're legally and - at least in my opinion - morally responsible. Harassment is harassment, even if it's done over the internet. The indictment makes it pretty clear what she's charged with. She, and the other defendants, *did* create an account under a false name, and use that account to get personal info from a 13 year old girl, then used that info to "torment, harass and humiliate" the kid.
If you intentionally smurf someone around like that, committing that many illegal acts in the process, than damn straight you should be held accountable for it.
"Freedom of speech" doesn't mean "freedom to try to ruin a child's life for entertainment". Someone who tried that kind ofin real life would probably earn a sound beating quite quickly; it shouldn't be possible to get away with the same thing by hiding behind a computer. In most civilised countries, inciting the commission of a crime is a crime in itself. Even though suicide is lawful, incitement to commit suicide remains a crime. For civilised nations, at least.
Yeah I heard about that :S
Every day I see my grandma she tells me about another myspace related death/raping >.<
She doesn't use the internet, and she only hears bad things like this, so she's really afraid of it![]()
Umm...welcome to 2006, where were you?
In all seriousness, it's people like her that give MySpace a worse name than the camera/attention whores.
Well, that's the justice system for you. >_<
Where were these laws when I was a kid? While I may appreciate and understand these ideas, I'm biased towards my childhood, where it was common for kids to fend for themselves while the teachers turned a blind eye to avoid dealing with bullies, at least until it became a legal consequence to avoid action.
What kind of idiot kills themself because their internet boyfriend turns out not to be a guy
This is the internet, nobody is who they say they are
