Wink I Love to Work the Pole!

MAN, the pole weapon class is the best in the game! DON'T DENY IT!

The poles are my favorite weapon family. For one, poles check magick resistance. While five of my people think their weapons are broken, I've got Vaan whackin' away with a pole. His typical attack strings seem to be this:

Block!, 2 Hit, 3 Hit, 4 Hit, Block!

I've also got Vaan set as my "de facto" Time Mage. He's always making sure Haste is cast. He also has all augments raising speed.

    Who's with me?

Yeah poles actually stand out from other weapons at multiple parts in the game, but I usually avoid them for the simple fact that swords, guns, spears, bows, daggers, staves and rods are alot cooler. And more traditional.

I usually have Balthier use poles. The only drawback is the fact that I noticed at times that when an opponent has Reflect on them the hits get blocked are nullified. I think this has to do with the fact that the damage is mitigated through your opponent's magic defence. On the plus side, most of them have low magic defence.

I've always hated using guns in any Final Fantasy. I've found them non-traditional.

When I began playing this game, I thought: "Meh, poles. I'll stick with my katanas and whatnot."

I now believe my former self was a dumbass.

If you haven't used poles yet, give them a shot. They aren't the biggest damage dealers, but work great with secondary damage.

Poles are neat for high damage, magic defence, and combos. Good all-round weapons. However, I usually (at least until the high-powered longswords and katanas become available) tend to favour one-handed weapons for my close-range attackers, so they can carry a shield. If my low-level characters need a two-handed weapon, it'll usually be a crossbow, longbow or gun. Guns are far more powerful than they might seem - the relatively low attack power is more than made up by the fact that they ignore defence. As far as I'm aware, only amorphs can actually resist gunfire. On everything else, it's as though your enemy has defence of 0.
