I just downloaded this thing called fraps for taking (30 sec) footage of games that I'm playing. My only problem is the massive file size of these clips. Dose anyone know how I can compress this without sacroficing quality?
Yes I always
I mostly do But other options exist.
only i I need to.
Never!

There's various codecs and encoding programs to shrink filesizes of videos. I think VirtualDub is pretty good for re-encoding and shrinking (dimension-wise) video. You'll likely want to shrink it, because it captures the full screen of your computer, which is a really really large height and width.
I never really liked Fraps. Runs too slow.
I thought it ran ok. I uploaded the vid. YouTube - Halo Footage for fraps
I love Fraps. I even paid for the legal version.
Yeah, I paid real money for software. I'm sure right now the Phrozen Crew would be turning in their graves except for the part where they're all still alive.
Can't you set it to capture videos at half size?
You have trouble shrinking video files to less than 1024 megs? :P
Nope. Fraps is for noobs who know nothing about encoding. Capture card ftw.
I like Kung-Fu.
a codec for to make the small files.
As always, AMV.org has wonderful informations for you.
Encoding DivX-compatible AMVs with XviD
Or you could just download the RAD video tools. I think they have xvid.
Fraps is great. I use it for stuff that doesn't have a self-recording feature. When you've defragged well, and have like 2ghz or more, or a dual core, it's real nice. As for the OMG HUEG VIDYA FIELS you can encode them with VirtualDub and ffdshow tryouts many encoders for a small file size. That's part of the life of video recording and if you don't like it, well you must be a fan of recording lossy on-the-fly encoding then (which would greatly slow down recording performance). I can't help you there.
