Something like this happened last year at Six Flags: Kentucky Kingdom. This girl was riding the "Superman Tower of Power" ride, and a cable snapped and sliced off both of her feet! It happened only months after I was at the same park, and my sister and cousins rode the ride like, 5 times! CREEPY.

I feel sorry for the kid's family and friends, but quite honestly, the kid should've known better. Jumping two 6-foot fences (which undoubtebly had warning signs) just to retrieve your hat? He could've waited until the ride stopped, or asked an employee or something...

The article, specifically the headline, is still written as though the roller coaster is somehow at fault for the teen's death. That's the tone I read, anyway, and it's rather obnoxious.

The title is "Boy decapitated by rollercoaster..." which certainly implies the theme park is at fault.

^This is just natural selection at work.

According to a different article I saw about the same subject, the kid jumped two 6-foot tall fences that had signs saying that it was dangerous and off limits.

I don't really have any sympathy to spare for this sort of stupidity.

Don't really have much sympathy for the kid himself, but it's still sad that they died.

As for roller coasters themselves, I love them. Always have and I'm sure I always will. I don't quite know what it is that I like about them the most, but I'd definitely see a day out to Alton Towers or something with some friends as a great day out. As it was when I went with friends in 2005.

Reason I did not ride a rollercoaster...

I saw the news at around 12 noon. They said the boy was trying to get his cap that had been blown away. I dunno. He's time was up anyway.

EDIT: Dang, my image never appeared.

I was thinking of the word FATALITY when this happened...

In fact if I remember it correctly, the words I used to describe this news to my brother was 'Hey did you see the news about a guy decapitated by a rollercoaster? He got FATALITY on that one'

    Hey where's the ezpimp smiley?

My I'm glad we didn't decide to go to an amusement park for the midwest meetup ^_^

I hate roller coasters though. They're scary. With or without people dying.

I only hope that the kid wasn't able to reproduce prior to his death...

I very much enjoy roller coasters.

I feel bad for his family, not for him.

My little brother went to Cedar Point yesterday and before he went my mom told him about what happened. "You'd do something like that, you know," she told him. He said "mom, I'm not stupid enough to go after a hat like that." Yeah, right. He's 13 and a daredevil, and an idiot with no common sense to boot. He totally would.

A big rule in my family when we go on rides is that if you're wearing a hat while on a ride, you take it off and sit on it. And if it does drop, never go get it. You would think the guy would have sense enough not to go in a restricted area. It is unfortunate that he died, but also a harsh lesson to anyone who tries something so stupid.

I remember a little girl was killed at a local amusement park a while ago. She was supposedly riding on this spinning ride (forgot the name) and she ended up being flung out of it and hit a tree and died.
