Boy decapitated by roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia is ID'd | ajc.com

    What a tragedy.

People don't realize how safe roller-coasters actually are. Typically if a fatality occurs, its at the own person's fault. I recall one woman had been on a roller-coaster in Indiana, stood up on the coaster and either fell off or jumped.

I've been in a couple of roller-coaster accidents, but neither fatal. I was on Raptor at Cedar Point and we were scaling the chain-lift. The chain failed, and anti-rollback devices (the things that go "clickclickclick") caught the train. The train slammed and I got a bit of a headache, but no one was really injured. We were given water until they had the lift working again. Then after the ride, our train was escorted to another coaster, front of the line.

I am completely terrified of roller coasters. I would not go on one if someone paid me a million dollars.

What do you expect us to say? I mean, of course we'll say I feel sorry for the kids family and such. But we're all thinking the same thing after reading that report. Six Flags is not in the wrong in this situation. And all ride are really safe. Take it from me, I worked at Six Flags Over Texas...

Honestly, I was waiting for a "YouTube or it never happened" response, but yes I don't think the park is at fault.

Well, it's obvious the park is not at fault. The kid was being an idiot and he got what was coming. I feel more sympathy for his friends and family than I do for him.

Apparently some guy who was too fat went on the Superman at the closest Six Flags to my home and fell out at the top of the lift, crashing to his death. Part of me is like *facepalm* stupid man who is too big for the seats thinking he can go on the ride. But the other part is like *facepalm* Six Flags don't let fat man on!

I love how the list of roller coaster deaths at the end of the ride did not actually include anyone riding the roller coaster. A few bystanders too stupid to realize they should not be near a smurfing roller coaster and some involving construction (which has nothing to do with the final product's safety).

Pinning these as roller coaster related deaths is misleading and only serves to make them sound more dangerous than they really are. While the situation is unfortunate, this is a fairly poor piece of journalism.

@ Denmark: They aren't supposed to let fat man on. I'd say the park's at fault with the information you've given me. Cedar Point is VERY strict when it comes to size restrictions. If there is any doubt, you're out. I saw this guy asked to leave Millenium Force because he was too tall, not too fat. He was only about 6 1/2'.

@ Ouch!: It's still a roller coaster related death. A roller coaster train ripped his head off! But it wasn't a roller coaster caused death. The roller coaster didn't jump off its supports and sneak up on the guy...

    Peegee to the rescue...sort of.

I witnessed a Roller Coaster related death. On The Bat (pic). Basically what happened was that they put a kid on the ride that probably didn't fit the restraints properly. His head whiplashed forward and when he went backwards his neck snapped. Oops.

Ride was shut down for a few hours. It was also (seriously) my first time attempting to go on the ride. I was scared of it for a while xD -- you'd think I would run screaming from the ride now.
