Thread: Esthar`s symbol?

  1. #1

    Default Esthar`s symbol?

    I noticed something today.

I made this and try to compare each other, identical, yes? Esthar has created both of them.

This is supposed to be Esthar`s symbol, I believe.

What does this symbol represent? I can only think of three things; the Lunar Cry, Lunatic Pandora and Esthar. Use your imagination how these things flow with the symbol.

The crescent and circle looks like it could indeed be intended to depict the Lunar Cry, although why the Lunar Cry would be specifically related to Esthar is a mystery to me. I'm sure you have a theory about that!

The other stuff is hard to say what it could be. Maybe the Estharian skyroads

Yes, it`s sort of like a traditional thing going on at Esthar (hence people talking about it and the appearance of the symbol in Esthar`s city) because Lunar Cry has happened in the past, and so on.

Hmm, I think the lines came from Lunar Fall. Like, during that event, did you not see a lot of white/yellow narrowed lights being spread out from the core (the core that dropped from the moon).

Oh, the same symbol is also displayed on the Lunar pillar.

if it's not the Lunar Cry, then it's the magical kind of technology prominent in Esthar. Lunar Cry seems more likely, but can't it occur in places besides esthar? I thought it was the galbadians who incited it last?

The lunar cry landed the monsters on the galbadian continent, but I myself thought that the lunar cry itself could only be established at.. you know, the place with the crying statues.

Maybe Adel diverted the flow of monsters towards Galbadia the first time.

Did you guys forget about the lunar cry on the centra continent 80 years (i think) prior to the game? The lunar cry can occur anywhere in the FF8 world naturally but lunatic pandora was designed to induce an artificial lunar cry.

Somebody should tell George Bush that the WMD's have been found.

Yeah I agree with the lunar cry, you see how the lines coming off are how tears are sometimes drawn, the left most one in the first picture looking like a tear, too. Also, remember the laguna flashback where he's filming the movie with the dragon, and at the end he witnesses something, was that a Lunar Cry?

I think Esthar might place so much importance on it, as the lunatic pandora/Crystal Pillar might be what allowed them to research all their technology. Also, the lunar cry that eliminated the Cetra civilization might be what allowed for the ascendency of Esthar. Alot of interesting stuff, hopefully they flesh it all out even further in the remake on PS3!!!

That symbol's vaguely similar to the crescent moon and star of Islam - in much the same way that Garden's logo resembles the yin/yang symbol. FFVIII's full of symbols and references that are similar, but different, to things in our world.

Remember Laguna's ill-fated jaunt on the Centra continent? Esthar was excavating the Lunatic Pandora crystal from there. That made me think that it's a natural crystal, but Esthar was trying to harness its power artificially. The crystal was dug up on Centra, so presumably it was there when the Lunar Cry struck that continent.

The Centra civilization got smashed by Lunar Cry and scattered around the world. Some of them landed up at Esthar, where the cool climate provided the perfect environment for technological innovation (apparently this is true in the real world). So, their symbol could represent their historical roots.

The symbol actually reminds me a bit of some of the pictures and symbols Tolkien attached to his High Elves.

Sorry, I meant Cetra instead of Galbadia. It's been a while since I played this game.

The funny thing about anyone suggesting that the symbol for Esthar has to do with Laguna kicking Adels ass like he does. Is that Lunatic Pandora and Ragnarok also the technology of Esthar are already developed pretty much by this point.

Esthar was going in to space (for the ragnarok was designed space capable) for a long time before they sent Adel up there, perhaps this symbol represents something to do with this? The teardrop could easily symbolise Tears Point locationwise, Note that Tears Point + Lunatic Pandora = Instant lunar cry. I'd say thats a pretty important location.

The 3 "contact" points (look at circuit boards, the lines in geometric straights and perfect angles for maximum connectivity sure looks like the copper inlays of a circuit board) could well represent Esthar's technological prowess.

The curve and circle could be many things, the lunar cry is a possibility along with other things, perhaps the original hearaldic device of Esthar?
