    Moogle GY!BE

So I've finally sat around and listened to some Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It was an accident, really, because I made itunes display all the songs that had 'sting' in the tags, and one came up and I was too lazy to change tracks, and it was AMAZING.

I've only listened to five so far, but that's still 2.5 hours of music. I really liked Providence and Storm so far.

They actually moved the exclamation mark before their third album Yanqui UXO, so they went from being GYBE! to GY!BE.

Anyway, brilliant brilliant band, and sadly missed (they're not officially split up but to all intents and purposes they are, I don't see them recording anything again). Three great albums (though my favourite is Lift Your Skinny Fists) and the best EP ever maybe. And that ending to Yanqui UXO is magnificent and yet so frustrating, the way it cuts off so abruptly. One of my favourite bands ever.

One of the greatest bands ever, only bad thing you can say about them is that they made post-rock peak way too early.

Sleep is my favourite by them, but yeah really good band.

Though I prefer A Silver Mt. Zion, tbh.

Really incredible stuff. Lift Your Skinny Fists... is the essential post rock record, although like Ryth says, if GY!BE are your starting point then everything else might turn out to be a bit of a let down.

Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like if I were as great as Paulo Wanchope.

Explosions in the Sky is another great example. I just recently (as in yesterday) listened to GY!BE, and I'd say I like Explosions more. I've never really been that into post rock, though. I like instrumental music, but it doesn't seem to have the same impact on me that it does on some people.

There's tons of post-rock out there. One of my favourite genres.

The best thing about them, to me, was always their name.
