Thread: What relic/esper set-up I should use for characters?

Default What relic/esper set-up I should use for characters?

I'm going to start playing FF6 (SNES version), problem is, I have no idea what characters and relic/espers to use.

So, what Relic and Espers should I use, and what characters should I use? I don't care what characters I use, except I want to use Terra. I have no idea for anyone else.

You'll start out with basic espers (when you get them; about 6 hours into the game), get everyone to master one esper each immediately. Then later as you gain espers switch them to suit your needs.

Espers aren't permanently equipped, and you'll have plenty of time before the final battle to really hit the espers hard.

Relics are based on preference, really, but it's logical to have people good in magic to use magic and equip relics accordingly, as well as having tanks tankified by relics.

Espers are really only used to learn spells and for stat gains at level up. I rarely summon them as the magic they teach seems better suited to my needs than the summon effects they offer. If you want overpowered characters, make sure you have an esper equipped at level up that offers a stat bonus. The game's not hard without these bonuses, so it's really a preference of game play.

Characters are another thing that's more of a personal preference. :P If you use everyone for a little while after you get them (which you will, because you usually have to) you'll figure out pretty quickly what their pros and cons are. :P And if you're not satisfied with your current party, change it. I really don't think you'll have any problem building a team that works for you.

Well you'll change relics frequently as you get more powerful ones as with any other FF game so theres not really a relic set thats suggestable besides Gembox+Economizer or Offering+Genji Glove

As for espers i suggest equiping based on stats for each character if not for spells, eg a magic stat increasing esper for Terra or Celes. Note many of Sabins Blitzes are based on Magic, Not strength (Vigor) so keep an eye out for that.

Just give Espers bonuses to the people who really need them. It's more of a personal preference than anything. Same goes with relics, although I do recommend the Gem Box + Economizer combo to your Mage and Offering + Genji Glove to your strongest fighter.

Vaan - "Interested in playing FFXII International Zodiac Job system?"
Ashe - "But you have no knowledge of the Japanese language?"
    Fran - "....We could help...."
Balthier - "That's right, Fran! Just click on Crossblades' thread on the very bottom of this signature and it will show you all license grid translations, magicks and tecks locations, and other changes that were made!"
Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

Just as something unmentioned; Marvel Shoes, if you go through all the trouble of getting them through the Dragon's Neck Coliseum in the late game, are awesome. Haste+Shell+Protect+Regen as I recall, though they're part of a long chain of interesting items.

Characters are mostly a manner of preference but if you don't want to glitch out the game, don't use Relm. More accurately, if you want to use her, don't use Sketch. There is a marginal chance you'll bug out the game horribly.

And speaking of bugs, there's a little thing about evasion. Long story short, M.Block does the job of evade as well, and evade does nothing. Thusly the one set of Beads you can find are absolutely worthless and the Zephyer Cape falls short of the White Cape in several ways. Other non-relic equips can suffer similarly, especially in the early game...
Look, I'm a strange person. When I was younger, nothing used to make me laugh any harder then when somebody made fun of me. Unfortunatly for me, my mockers looked at me strangely and stopped when I did this. Go figure.
