    Pink Grin Who Loves Yahtzee?

..and when I say Yahtzee, I mean our wonderful game reviewer at Zero Punctuation.

I must say, I find his reviews hilarious, even when I don't agree. Its just so damn hard to resist his humor. Maybe its cause we both seem to perceive games the same way...

I dunno. I used to like him, then a couple of months ago it's like he started being really hit or miss. Then I started drawing parallels between him and the Angry Video Game Nerd and suddenly I started finding him slightly annoying....

Zero Punctuation is one of the only 'funny' video game reviewers worth watching, along with Spoony One. He's kind of a one-trick pony though, so I don't know whether he'll still be hilarious in a year or so.

How is he funny? He's just like every other game reviewer. He bores me. Is it because he has an Australian accent or something?

I look forward to these reviews every Thursday (time zone differences), and they never disappoint.

I know, every man and his dog is doing the "this game is skullskullskullskull and I HATE IT!!!" review these days, but Croshaw's different. He has something to say about the game, and often focusses his criticism on genuine flaws, or at least things that can reasonably be subject to criticism. Bile, but bile that's actually directed at something, rather than just being "hurr, i r funnay cuz i sed swearz".
Is it because he has an Australian accent or something?
    Not an Australian accent, no...

While he's generally scathing, and often irks fanboys quite seriously, he'll give credit where it's due, even amidst a tongue-lashing. He's definitely an intelligent chap, which adds depth and credibility to what he's got to say. Compared to the multitude of similar reviewers, whose commentaries usually consist of:

And to add to that, Yahtzee's got those brilliantly simplistic animations that make it all come to life. Top-notch stuff, and genuinely well thought-out.

D summed up my feelings. Most reviewers that do the angry/irritated/swearing hyperbole thing present everything as if it's fact without much to back it up, and as a result come across as giant flaming assholes.

Yahtzee, on the other hand, always quite explicitely presents things as opinions and says that if you like certain things, you might like the game. His gags are usually pretty clever too. I mean, anytime I've watched other game reviewers that have a similar angle I thought they were pretty retarded, but even when Yahtzee does a game I genuinely like I find myself entertained.

He has a great sense of visual humor and pacing, so it's generally pretty entertaining to read.

I will say though that I prefer it when he reviews games he would have some desire to play on his own. I think they're the stronger of his reviews.

I forget which video it was, but he commented about how he did that once with his Psychonauts review and apparently it wasn't as well received as the ones where he gives the game a good thrashing.

I liked Yahtzee's works before he made zero punctuation

However i found the first few zero punctuations extremely humourous despite not having played any of the games. Though i dont agree with what he says about jrpg.
    Kefka's coming, look intimidating!

I've never played any of the games he's reviewed, and I enjoy a good JRPG as much as anyone, but I'm still greatly amused by what he has to say on such things.

I'm talking more like I prefer to see him review games in the general genres he plays as opposed to games in the genres he doesn't. Although I was pleasantly surprised by how his WEWY review came out. His Brawl one less so, I just didn't find it terribly entertaining because he was against the game from the beginning and went into it knowing he wasn't going to like it.

The Brawl review, and ensuing poo-storm, were quite amusing for me. In fact, he seemed to go relatively easy on the game, with only mild criticisms of the graphics, controls, and unlockable content. Sure he went into it knowing he'd hate it, but he seemed like he'd only decided to review it because of the incessant demands. But I see what you mean, though - when he's reviewing something he's even mildly interested in playing, the results are usually quite entertaining.

These days I often find the visual side of his reviews more entertaining as a supplement to what he's saying. There's a lot of stuff happening on the screen that relates to his speech in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. I caught an Evangelion reference in his recent Haze review. Definitely like it more when he fanboys out on a game he really likes, like Painkiller.

Decent way to spend 4 minutes a week.

That kind of thing definitely gets annoying. But it's not like he's a real reviewer. xP

He seems to think he is. It depends what you consider constitutes a 'review' I guess.
