Thread: I'm enjoying my new copy of Final Fantasy I(PSP)!!

I'm enjoying my new copy of Final Fantasy I(PSP)!!

Today I bought Final Fantasy I for the PSP and it's great! I haven't played a classic traditional rpg for a couple years. I'm enjoying Final Fantasy I a lot since it's from my favorite subgenre of rpg. I've never played more than a few minutes on Nes of Final Fantasy I. Now I own the game and will beat it with a 100% completion rate. I just bought the strategy guide online. I had trouble finding it and the game at stores, it's sold out almost everywhere here.

Anyways, the story and characters aren't too developed since it's a Nes rpg, but I enjoy the style of the story anyways. I am reminded of my days when I used to play Dragon Quest I. The graphics and music are great, although of course not on the level of something like Final Fantasy VI. Controls are great and the battle system is great, although a bit dated now. I wonder how many side quests the game will have and how long it will be.

Anyways, I'm about to enter Pravoka, the second city. I've played over an hour and a half of this today. I love it! What do you think of it?

FF1 ROCKS! I just completed the NES version for the 2nd time (I have also completed WSC once and DoS 6 times, so I have tried many different versions of FF1)

I havenīt played FF1 Anniversary but it looks awesome. Anyway, whatīs your party?

    This rules LXX! !!!

Nice! Have you tried the Playstation 1 version, or the cellphone version? I'm using...

I have the Warrior, Thief, White Mage, and Black Mage party. I went overboard yesterday playing this game since I'm so excited. I think I'm 1/3 or 1/2 done with the game now! I'm just starting this game and now it looks like I can beat it sometime from Tuesday to Friday next week and start up Final Fantasy II! This PSP version is great, the graphics are updated, there's a new dungeon, and an art gallery. I'm more excited about this game than I am for Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics A2!

    EDIT:
This is ultimate! I'm playing around(committing "mischief") in the Mirage Tower right now. This is great. Anyways, I have capability of beating this game before my strategy guide comes in the mail on Monday or Tuesday. I'm using walkthroughs from Gamefaqs and Bullfrogzone.com websites. I wonder what the side quests are in this game? There are apparently four Soul of Chaos levels. I hear there is a new dungeon. Let me check the Gamefaqs walkthrough. Next week I'll be playing Final Fantasy II, but Final Fantasy I is amazing! It may shock you but this game is on track for a 9 out of 10 score from me! It has an unknown non-specific quality which is very good. I'm reminded of my time playing Dragon Quest I, but Final Fantasy I seems like a much much better version of that game!

Game Trailers Final Fantasy Retrospective part 1 - Final Fantasy I:
    Gametrailers.com - Final Fantasy Retrospective - Part I
...watch both those links please, they are great~!!

    EDIT:
I finished all of the main quest except for the final dungeon so far. I've played a lot of this game in the past two days since I don't have school or work in these two days, it's basically all I did. Currently I'm working my way through the side quests. It took nearly 13 hours to finish the main quest stuff besides the final dungeon and the final dungeon will push it up to 14 hours, but I'm not doing that yet. I'm beating all five of the new dungeons added since the original release. Four were added for the GBA release and one was added for this PSP release. I think that to truly complete these five super long dungeons, it will take 14 hours. So a rough timeline of how long this game is that it's 10 hours if you do everything perfectly and go through it very fast with skill and skip all the sidequests. And it's 30 hours if you do everything more slowly and finish all the side quests but truly finish them since they can take a very long time. Anyways, I can't get enough of this game, I love it!

No, I havenīt tried the PSX version or the Cell Phone version.

Warrior, Thief, W. Mage, B. Mage is a good party (though in DoS/PSP I like to have more than just 1 fighter/knight, because of all the good weapons)

What do you think of the Soul of Chaos(this name rules!) dungeons? This idea of this is great! I'm on the Earthgift Shrine, finished two run throughs out of four so far.

Dragonsoul, 14 hours for 4 runs of all the extra dungeons? Even if you sped thru as fast as possible on a 300% + speed emulator, it would take like 15 hours, so look at 60 hours for 4 runthrus of the SoC dungeons. As for the new secret dungeon in the back of the Chaos Shrine, it's a no-go till lvl 99, and it'll still take a while.

I think the PSP version of this masterpiece is disgustingly horrible. Not only are the graphics an eyesore, but the game is extremely easy. It seems easier than the Dawn of Souls version.

Somehow, Square just could not include II with I on a UMD. Shameless ploy to steal another $30.

I suppose the PSP version is okay; if you have absolutely no other way to play this otherwise beautiful game. But, the Origins version is amazing, and still available on websites such as Amazon brand-new.

Dragonsoul, I hope when you think of I, you don't think of its PSP edition. If there is anyway to experience a different version, go for it.[/MHO]

I did four run throughs of the Earthgift Shrine, collecting all the items each time, in about 2 hours. That's five levels done four times, 20 total levels/floors. But for the Hellfire Chasm it turns out you only have to do two run throughs to beat all four of the bosses. Also, I'll get all the items on the first run through but skip the items on the next run throughs, to save huge amounts of time. That's ten levels times two, which is 20 floors/levels. But this will take a bit longer, maybe 2.5 hours? The Lifespring Grotto is 20 levels and requires two run throughs, which is 40 total floors, maybe this takes 4 hours? Whisperwhind Cove is 40 levels, but has only one run through, maybe this take 4.5 hours?

I am not through with these so I'm estimating. But I feel this is not going to be accurate. I'm not sure if 13 hours is going to be right.

Also, is the only disadvantage of the PSP version over any other version that it's supposedly easier? I don't have a GBA but I have a DS though, and I could play it on PS 1 as well.

I did one run through of the Hellfire Chasm, that's where I'm at now. And I wonder if the Labyrinth of Time dungeon is going to be long?

Yes. I have DoS, and that version is pretty easy (even a run with a solo thief wasnīt hard) and some people say that the PSP version is easier, but the PSP graphics are awesome.

Anyway, I still play the NES version, which is my favorite (I have only played the NES version twice, but itīs still my favorite)

I could play it on PS 1 as well.
If that means that you have FF Origins then try that version on normal mode (I have heard that normal mode should be the same difficult as the original NES version)

There are some differences between Origins' normal mode and the NES version; such as bosses with twice as much HP as one example. So it is definitely the best remake version, but it isn't a geniune overhaul of the game.

I found that the PSP version's extreme ease to be culprit #1 as why I hated it, but the graphics were #2. Some say they're beautiful, I thought they were god awful.

Final Fantasy I for PSP seems easy. I want it to be a little harder, I noticed this. I don't have it for PS 1, but I own a PS 2, and have the capability of playing it.

I'm upset and happy at the same time. I'm upset because I haven't played Final Fantasy I yet today. I'm happy because that was because I was busy watching E3 coverage on G4 and reading the news on Final Fantasy XIII!

    I'll play more later today.

Glad you like it =) FF I is indeed a good game. I've only played/beaten the GBA version, but I enjoyed it very much. I'm tempted to get the PSP version just so I can try out that new dungeon
