Thread: E3 2008: Microsoft Official Thread

I thought Sony was the root of all evil when they took over the console race and stole Square. And I wasn't even a Nintendo fan. Just having some upstart jump in who didn't know what they were doing and had no sportsmanship about it, just a huge pocketbook to back them up, seemed to taint the whole industry

That was years ago. I grew up. So should some of you

Sony has been evil. Microsoft has been evil. EA anyone? Come on, this is how companies make money. And this industry is built on businesses

I could understand if Microsoft actually stole it away. Especially if you bought a PS3 for it. But they didn't steal it. PS3 still gets it. And the rest of the XIII saga is still exclusive

I'm starting to think people who bought a PS3 really don't even like the system. And now they're mad because they bought a system they didn't like. As said. Sucks for them. That's not a financially sound decision. Be more careful with your money?

Other than that, I still fail to see a problem. I don't see Microsoft tainting the industry. In fact because of Microsoft's backing, a lot of really good games have been published. And its not even like Microsoft is the one publishing XIII. So they're not even bloodying their hands on this venture

Nothings been taken here. Just something added :[

To be fair to Sony they never stole anything, Square jumped aboard Playstation due to technical aspects. The only reason Square put FFXIII onto 360 is because of cash. Microsoft are just bribing developers which I think is wrong.

Sony are arrogant for sure, but there honorable too. They earned there place at the top for doing so many things right the last two generations. Microsoft have the better business plan this generation but I don't think its right at all.

I think the point here is that we, the gamers, benefit from this, right?

    Or am I missing something?

Square went to Sony for cash too. Sony didn't have the only CD based console on the market at the time. In fact it had an inferior CD based console at the time

And I don't think Sony did so much right, as the other companies just did so much wrong. And burried themselves. God forbid at least Microsoft learned something. Whereas Sega just kept playing the same game, digging a bigger and bigger hole

Exactly, Square went to Sony. Its not bad that Sony willingly helped Square but at least they didnt go to them and bribe them to betray their existing fanbase on the Nintendo consoles.

Square was leaving Nintendo regardless. That much I can agree on. But I've never heard Square deny Sony bribed them away from choosing the other CD based console

In fact at the time, Sega was pretty well up there. They seemed like a very likely choice back then. I was really surprised by Square's decision. The only alternative reason would be that the Saturn was a lot more complex to code for. Which isn't very Square-like. In the last generation or so they enjoyed the challenge of complexity simply to achieve that superior quality. So I'm left to assume money was the answer. A bribe, as you call it. From Sony. Yes

I've never heard you deny that you eat puppies. I'm not going to assume you don't eat puppies.

I for one found Resistance: Fall of Man, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank Future to all be very fun for the time I've played them. Haven't got a chance to try Warhawk or DMC4 but they both looked good IMO. It also does have a good number of games that, while multiplatform, are worth picking up if you only have a PS3. Hell, I don't even own the system and don't plan to and can find understandable reasons to purchase one or at least have a friend who does.

It should be made clear that even with FFXIII lost Sony still have the best line-up of games. Im probably more excited for Tekken 6 (yeah, weird huh) but that's a 3rd Party game so we can expect it to be announced for 360 any moment now.

Sony have said many times they dont pay for exclusives. They earn them.

Maybe that's where things are lost in translation for me in this argument. PS3 doesn't have anything that interests me outside of FF and Drake. Tekken doesn't do it for me. I love my 360. And not because I'm a fan of Microsoft. Nor do I enjoy Halo, or most any shooter for that matter. And definitely not any sports games. As the XBoxs seem to be mostly known for. I've loved a lot of quirky under the radar games for 360 like Overlord (which is only just now being ported to PS3) and LoTR: BFME II

I loved Oblivion, but I didn't cry when PS3 got it. I enjoyed Mass Effect, and now I think I heard the sequal is going to be on PS3, which if true wouldn't bother me either

I skipped MGS last generation, and I was willing to forfeit FFXIII this generation simply because it didn't justify buying a system for me. Plus I hated XII, so I couldn't justify buying a system for a sequal I didn't have much faith in

Now I'll get to try it without having to fork over 500 bucks first

First of all,i have to say that i'm glad that 360 owners who couldn't afford buying a PS3 will get a chance to play FFXIII.Exclusives are a necessary evil afterall:/
I don't blame SE for "selling out" on Sony. They are in this business to make money.I don't blame MS either. It's what they do best...Their expansion policy is well known for decades now.
And Sony,of course they can't compete with MS when it comes to money power. If they try to play MS's "game",they will lose. The only thing they CAN do is to focus more on first party exclusives. They already own some great development studios,i think they should expand on that.

A matter of taste. I personally find the below list hard to compete with. (Not exhaustive by any means, just 360 exclusives I care about.)

    Ace Combat 6
    Beautiful Katamari
    Chromehounds
    Crackdown
    Dead Rising
    Dead or Alive 4
    Earth Defense Force 2017
    Gears of War
    Halo 3
    Halo Wars
    Infinite Undiscovery
    Star Ocean: The Last Hope
    Too Human

Don't push me man, Ill make a list that'll make your eyes bleed if I have to. And I was really only specifying Sony's future line-up, not their current offering. Which to be honest is at a near tie after MGS4.
