Only reason I give him an inch or two of respect is due to he's quite ace at blitzball and does grow a backbone by the end of the story. Otherwise being incredibly oblivious and full of childish doubt about almost everything, he does somewhat change towards the end and that's a bit more respect for him.
On the other hand though, he is, and always will be, a whiny so-and-so. : D
