Thread: Buying Phoenix Down

    Default Buying Phoenix Down

Ok so I just started a new game on my FFXII (I'd already beaten it but I wanted to play again). I decided that I'd have a better strategy this time and made the decision to buy a butt load of phoenix downs, go off and fight Dustias, get Vaan to level 20-25 and then go off into the palace. That way when Fran and Balthier joined I'd have a really high levelled party.

    But here's the catch,
I can't buy phoenix downs! What?!

I searched around the web thinking that perhaps you can't buy it this early but pretty much every site I went to said you could buy it immediately. So now I'm all peed off cos I wondering if it's one of those horrible things where the European version (I'm in the UK) is different from the Japanese/US version. Please note as well I'm NOT playing the international version. Ugh! Why do Square do this? Seriously what is the point of changing the game like that, weird tiny little things, for other countries.

So yeah, is this so? Are some versions of the game programmed to not have phoenix down as an easily obtained item at the beginning? If so what versions? And is there any way I can grab a huge loads of phoenix down some other way?

    Thanks.

That's not strategy. That's called 'leveling up until the game is no longer challenging'.

You need to get the Crescent Stone from Dalan before you can buy Phoenix Downs from Migelo Sundries
in the NTSC version. If this is different in the Japanese or PAL version no one has taken note of it.

If you wanna put it like that but still technically a strategy, I'm stickler for high lvls, it's just how I like to play.

And I'm already past that bit and Migelos place is still not selling them.

Also, i'm playing through the game again too (3rd time!) and I had no problem finding Phoenix Downs in the beginning.

PS- I have the US version.

It's a pain isn't it? I'm now finding places that say you should be able to purchase it after Penelo joins you party briefly at the beginning but I'm past that bit and I still can't buy any.

I've yet to buy a phoenix down. I prefer giving everyone "Raise."

Try monster chaining to improve drops to multiple phoenix downs per monster.

Yeah, I agree. In the beginning, you'll wanna save up those Phoenix Downs for urgent situations, so Raise is what I try to use mostly.

The only place to buy Phoenix Downs pre-palace is from the merchant Lohen in the Dalmasca Westersand. You can find him in the Western Divide area.

You can also unlock some in the Bazaar, but you'll be going out your way to do so.

You can also go to the screen after the Outpost in the Dalmasca Eastersands and make your way to Nablina, the merchant in the very first screen before entering the town will have some to buy.
