My first time through, so far...

So far, I'm not disappointed with the game at all since I finally decided to give it a serious chance. There's definitely one thing that stands out from all the other FF's I've played so far (beaten or not). This is definitely one of the funniest FF's I've ever played. Not only the crossdressing of Cloud, but the lines that he and others say. Especially Aeris! I love that woman! LOL... The only problem I have with it, is the implied 'bestiality' scene with Aeris and Red XIII. Looking at it from a different point-of-view, it makes you wonder what has become of a society that used to have a sense of humour about this stuff. Imagine the Fury of the Trailer Trash, if a game came out now that has crossdressing and bestiality in it...LOL...although, the beasty-sex thing is still gross no matter how you look at it.

BTW, no need to be quoting Clerks II at me with the "it's inter-species erotica -o!"

LOL the whole beastiality thing was maybe a little over the top, but I think it goes far in describing how much of a dystopia Midgar is, where scientists like Hojo can perform experiments like those.

Yeah, there are some really funny moments in the game. But there also tended to be a very dark element to the game. I really picked this up when I played it recently (when I first played through, I was quite young). I felt there was a definite criticism (perhaps unintended) of pure capitalism and greed, without regard to the externalities of ones actions. Especially when you speak to the NPCs, even in Midgar, and see how their lives have been so badly by this company.

Just a curiosity, but in what part of the game are you now? This is your first contact with FFVII, or you already played/watched other spin-off? And what FF games did you already beat?

The bestiality scene is, in my opinion, just a way of showing how crazy Hojo really is.

Interesting that the funny moments stand out, as it is easily the darkest themed entry in the series.

So I guess in a way it would make sense for the times of humor to be more noticeable. Statement retracted.
