    Default celes?

I know this seems weird,but...Celes's outfit really confuses me.

She wears that dress for the opera, and the martian outfit when you play as her.So why is she wearing the brown skin-tight outfit in the movies and in the FFVI artwork? Why can't she wear that all the time?

The movies from the PlayStation remake are based directly on Yosh[/i]itaka Amano's artwork, which is why Celes has her leather vest-and-trousers combo in those videos. It's also the reason why Terra (confusingly) has blonde hair, since every woman in Amano's art is blonde, from Tifa to Eiko.

Quite a few things got changed, in the transition from concept art to in-game visuals.

When you go to concept art and realistic 3d designs less colour is better, when you get into making an actual game particularly with sprites where they already dont look particularly realistic colourful eye candy is the way to go.

    Thats my theory

Plus giving the characters different hair colors makes it much easier for gamers to distinguish between the characters. Just look at the in-game sprites for Rosa and Celes. If concept art were exactly replicated in-game, characters could become hard to tell apart.

Not only that, but a big mass of yellow (blonde hair, yellow clothes, a dash of purple) isn't very appealing on a sprite.

Celes' original outfit was probably too complicated to animate on a 2D sprite.

Good point... also, pale leather would probably look a lot like skin on a tiny FFVI-style sprite. I daresay she'd have looked naked if they tried to depict her in that outfit.

And the last thing they'd want is for one of thier characters to look naked

Particularly in the US version, what with the censorship of various enemy sprites that went on there!
