Installing an external Harddive

I need your halp! I bought an external harddrive and put it together and hooked it up to my computer and the icon in the bottom right showed up so I guess I put it together right, but I can't find it. I click on my computer and there's just the C,D, and E drive. Can someone help me find it or link to putting it together cause I don't know if I did right. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Nevermind. I called the people and I needed to format it first and now it's working fine.

As a tip - you should always format new external drives regardless of if it needs to be done or not, considering how often new ones come preinstalled with viruses from the factories lately
