Default Black Chocobo + Materia Cave=Bang**?

I am replaying Final Fantasy 7 for the millionth time, and I am working on the Chocobo breeding side quest. Now, everyone knows there are four materia caves each with one special materia found nowhere else. Well, KOTR is fantastic, Mime is one of the handiest commands around, and Quadra Magic has its applications although it doesn't really fit into my playing style. Then there is the crappy hp<--->mp materia. Now, I have played this game as I have said many times, and I have yet to find a decent application for this materia. I really wonder what the game designers had in mind when this was conceived because it is extraordinarily crappy especially for an Independent type materia which can be really useful.
    So, what are y'alls thoughts?

well considering they made it to where you could pair KOTR with quad mag, they needed a way to make everyone not complain about not having enough magic so they threw hp<-->mp swap a materia not an idea

I never used it myself. The monsters you need a lot of MP to kill usually happens to be pretty strong (for some reason) so I'll need the HP more.

It's mainly useful for leveling up limit breaks faster.

It can be useful if you were to attempt a low level challenge of some sort (I remember the video of level 7 Tifa vs Emerald Weapon used it, since there's no way she'd have enough MP to summon the Knights normally).

I have actully tested this and it doesnt work, no Summon Materia works with Quadra Magic. Fact.

While I may be talking out of my ass, I think they changed it so that the two can be paired in the PC version. For some reason, I vaguely remember summoning Bahamut Zero with quadra magic. I don't remember it working with KOTR, though.

IIRC, I have used Bahamut ZERO with Quadra Magic. KotR didn't work, though.

I remember using quad magic with a myriad of materis, even KotR, only that did not work. Although quad summoning is not a very good idea...

I once did this, maybe you could try it out: give Vincent every single summon that he can carry, then give him HP<->MP. He'll most likely end up with 999 HP, especially with a couple of MP Plus (HP<->MP also exchanges the effects of Materia that increase HP and MP), more than enough if he's in the back row and one of your party members has Cover, plus all his weapons are long range anyway, and summons don't lower attack power if you decide to have him attack physically. Also, try to give him equipment that boosts his elemental defenses so that he doesn't have to worry much about magic.

So why Vincent? Well, if you've the patience, you have him summon a lot during tougher fights, then when he's about running out of them (after all, who the hell bothers leveling them up normally?) his Limit should be charged. Use it, watch his HP grow (Death Gigas is recommended as it'll double his HP to 1998) and watch him continue to be useful. With the amount of robotic enemies and bosses in this game, his lightning elemental attacks will be extremely useful against them.

Default Maybe it would be good with 255 luck

I only used HP-mp to master it once. Not at all do I like it.

It doesn't work with KOTR because KOTR costs about 230 mp.
230 x4 = MORE THAN 999 mp! So...It doesn't work. On the other hand, all the other summons are probably under 200 mp...I haven't played FF7 in awhile. But I'm still correct. But I still don't know if you can have 9999 mp, while having 999 hp while using Quadra KOTR?

Some characters' ultimate weapons - Cid's and Nanaki's, if I remember right - get stronger as the character's MP increases. So if your team's at relatively low levels, but you want these weapons to achieve their full potential, then HP->MP materia would be a good way to do it.

I've never tried this, so I've no idea if it actually affects the Venus Gospel and Limited Moon, but I don't see why it shouldn't work.

Default this is a trick never before thought of

When your low on MP and have the HP<--->mp materia equip it and you MP can sky rocket up to 9999mp (max) then heal your HP (which will be at low since you didn't have mp when you equip it) with cure. When your hp (999hp max) is full take off the HP<--->mp materia and you should have full mp and you can cure your HP back to good status. I just was thinking of this while re-reading this thread its pretty handy and I'll probally use the materia myself just for this purpose. goodbye ethers.

    230 * 4 = 920, but KoTR costs 250 MP.
