Default When Money is at Stake...

Alright, so this is going to be a...what do you recommend?? kind of thread.
Some background though... if you dont want to read it, just jump to the BOTTOM LINE

In about a year, my parents are moving to Washington D.C.. For living on the West Coast, that is forever away and I am planning on a West Coast school, because this is home. As we all know, colleges and dorms, even apartments, dont give you much space. Currently i have a Wii, N64, Xbox, and DS, with a PS2 coming in.

Im selling the Xbox because i have played most of the games that have intrested me, and the others are either too rare or hard to find or expensive to be considered.

Im selling my DS because of hardware problems, including a crack, chipping, and the like. (For some reason, the top screen just..dies whenever i bring it out of sleep mode, and white brings out blemishes quite well ><.)

In addition, i am selling all my 7 xbox games, and Dragon Warrior monsters for the DS. So no recommending xbox or this DS game please.

Now while this might not get me tons of money normally, maybe 100 dollars at a wild guess, the amount drastically increases when you figure in gamestop promotions which are....

20 dollars + console trade in when you trade in consoles..and
30%+ on trade in amount if you also trade in 5 games or more.

So figuratively, if it was a 100 dollars worth of stuff im trading in, based on the bonuses alone, i would get at least 160 dollars of stuff, so maybe it wasnt a gigantic leap, but its an additional newly released smash game, isnt it?

    BOTTOM LINE

What games would you recommend for the Wii, DS, or PS2? Any kind of genre is accepted, but i would prefer games with lasting replay if at all possible.

If you're going to be in a dorm, Smash Bros. is all you need. :P

I found Brawl unplayable. I recommend Okami for Wii/PS2, you'll get a good forty hours. And Puzzlequest: Challenge of the Warlords for your DS. You'll get similar mileage, then theres other classes to do it again with.

You're in the very tiny minority there.

It was too slow. I love zip in my fighters. Its the same reason I don't play Tekken.

I found Brawl way too clunky, especially on Wiimote. It's addition of third-party characters made me like it even less. Being a Smash Bros. character used to mean something.

In an attempt to reverse the derailing of this thread I also recommend you pick up Geometry Wars: Galaxies, and Meteos. Also for your DS.

For PS2, I'd recommend the Final Fantasies, Shadow of the Colossus, Gran Turismo 4 and Soul Calibur III. These are all low-price games, with great content and replay value.

Also worth a look is the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive collection, which has a brilliant assortment of great 16-bit titles.

Depends if you want like a two player game or something that is just for yourself.

For two player i usually stick with FPS or Fighting games, like Capcom vs SNK 2, SF3 Third Strike, or something along those lines. I only own Red Faction for my PS2 so i am in the dark with those kinds of games, i usually PC them. I personally wont recommend Soul Calibur 3 because of the broken aspects of the game i hear people have issues with, but if you arent playing it too serious/competitively i say pick it up too.

Single Player games mostly for me consist of Tetris(though can be multi player too for DS), Zelda, Odin Sphere, or Izumi. But i rarely play those types of games anymore so...bleeeh XD

My Youtube Page - Full of Capcom vs SNK 2 goodness!

I'm going to talk about games that I like and exclude any Final Fantasy titles from the lists because you're probably thinking of those being a member of a Final Fantasy fansite and all

    So for the DS:

    The World Ends With You

I LOVE the soundtrack, and I absolutely love all of the characters. The gameplay is fantastic and I've never seen anything like it. It's the most unique RPG ever. I have only two complaints:

    1. Getting the secret reports after finishing the game is nearly impossible! I still haven't done it. IT'S HARD ;_;

    2. I cringe whenever Beat says his line that goes something like "Yo, that was TIGHT." Everything else he says is bearable.

    Ace Attorney series

My favorite DS series ever ever EVER. It's currently my number one obsession.

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Trace Memory/Another Code

These and the Ace Attorney series don't have that high of a replay value, being visual novel-types but they are some of the best games the DS has seen.

    Final Fantasy III

Yeah, I know what I said, but this is a really good game to carry around with you on the go! A nice little (big) RPG in your pocket.

    PS2:

    Tekken 5

If you like fighting games, this is an excellent game! Marduk's chest hair didn't have to be so detailed if you ask me, though.

    Mobile Light Force 2

Very cheap. You can probably find it for like, five bucks somewhere. They KILLED IT during the translation, taking out the ENTIRE PLOT and much more. Also the cover is misleading and has nothing to do with the game. At all. It's still pretty fun, though, and I never played the original so I don't know what I'm missing.

    Phantasy Star Universe

Good soundtrack, and I love the variety of neat-o weapons. I have never played it online, though, so I can't comment on that.

    Grand Theft Auto III

Flying Car and Tank cheats are just cool in this kind of game.

    Wii:

I've played only a few games

Rayman: Raving Rabbids, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl (haven't bought that one). They're all pretty good. Tomb Raider is definitely much better on the Wii.

    Taking from Jesswee

I also recommend The World Ends With You. I have gotten 100% completion on everything in it, took me about 170 hours to do though.

Phantasy Star Universe is a HUGE NO. I played from day 1. My history with that game is long and varied. I was actually one of the most well known people on the PC/PS2 servers. Eventually I quit because it just gets so boring and the content was extremely repetitive.

I would suggest getting FFIV DS, it's the best version of FFIV I've ever played, and I've played all of them. I honestly never truly enjoyed the game before this version.

Secondly, if you like Strategy games, any Fire Emblem game is a suggestion... GBA, GC, Wii. Or Advance wars is also fun, but rather different. On top of that the new FFTA2 is pretty fun too. All last a long time IMO, and the Fire Emblem games have decent re playability at harder difficulties.

OH, if you liked Resident Evil 4, and haven't played it in awhile, the Wii version is definitely the best one to play. I'm loving playing through it over again. Definitely one of those games that's fun to replay every once and awhile.

I think you should give Shiren the Wanderer on the DS a try. It's kind of hardcore, but it's something you can play over and over and it will be a little different each time. Well... you *will* play it over and over, because when you die you lose all your EXP and money and any items you don't have in storage and you start over from the beginning. But it's part of the 'fun', once you realize that the point is not to level-up the character in the game, but rather 'level-up' you the player as you learn all the tricks of the random items and monsters. If you can handle it.
