That's why I say a fan of the series might find it better than someone who isn't, and why an uninducted person would be better off starting with III or V (Or if you can get them, I or II on the PSX).
Do I need Suikoden I & II to understand the plot in Suikoden III, IV and V?

No; the plots are all related, but it's not at all necessary to play any of them to understand any of the others.

I'm pretty damn sure Dreddz knows more about RPGs than you do. He just didn't mind the topic at hand and suggested something irrelevant.

Haha, are you freaking serious? Dreddz? Not knowing what an RPG is? Lol, you sir...are simply amazing.

Don't go off on someone just for misreading your dumb thread.

Final Fantasy X and X-2 (not so much X-2) are absolute must-have rpgs for PS2.

I didn't go off on him I just told him what an RPG was because I thought he didn't understand my thread and he got pissed off for some reason.

And my thread isn't dumb I just wanna know what PS2 RPGs are considered to be the best around here because IGN, X-Play and Gamespot reviews bore me to tears.

It wouldn't be the first time I bought a flawed RPG because I bought Okage: Shadow King and that game was god awful in my opinion.

Shadow King tried so hard to be funny but in the end it didn't make me laugh at all but Paper Mario 2 made me laugh my ass off.
Disregard this, Okage is the single greatest RPG ever made ever. Ever.

Says who? Final Fantasy X was more fun than Okage even though Square Enix had horrible voice actors...By the way I hate Final Fantasy X-2 the way The Red Skull hates Captain America.

    FFX, check.

FFX-2, the gameplay outweighs the plot flaws.

Suikoden III is nifty. Epic plot, although I found the guy tending the castle more interesting than the three main heroes. Two honorable villains worthy of Rubicant.

Suikoden IV is quite a change from the rest, especially in the way (SPOILER)a boat becomes the home base instead of a castle. A lot of time spent traveling. I liked a lot of the characters, although a few are very hard to recruit without a guide. It's also one of the few Suikoden games where you can max most of the characters (leveling usually becomes ineffective above level 60).

Suikoden V is a return to the core values of the series. A lot of royal dynastical infighting and intrigue. Some very loveable secondary characters.

There are several others I recommend that date from the PSX console: Breath of Fire III, Dragon Warrior VII (although mastering is recommended only for the masochistic), Suikoden I & II.

Thanks for the advice but I'm still not buying Final Fantasy X-2 because like I said before I hate X-2 it's a crap sequel like KOTOR II.

I am a pretty big KH fan, so they are good games. So is SO3, though I have yet to beat it.

FFXII is a must. You will hear many fans argue either way for it. But despite its flaws, it is still a great game. By flaws, I do not mean that is really broken rather there were some area where they could have done better.

And Persona 3:FES is simply amazing. It is a must have for any JRPG fan.

Returning to FF. I suggest FFX if you have not played it yet. As well as FFX-2. Despite my feelings towards it from a simple philosophical point (just trying to milk money out of a strong fanbase with girls in skimpy dresses) there is still some value to be found in FFX-2. The Dresssphere system is quite interesting and the battle system is fun too, foreshadows what is to come in FFXII as far as battle mechanics are concern.

Since PS2 is backwards compatible with PS1, I'd go for Final Fantasy Tactics, unless you have a PSP then go for remake on the PSP. It is a great game, though it is an sRPG. Dunno how you feel about them.

Dark Cloud is fun too, though I have yet to finish it. I assume DC2 is good too, from what I hear they made good improvement on the first game.

If you like the battle system in SO3, then you will most probably like Rogue Galaxy as well. It is by the same developers as Dark Cloud 1&2. Sure, the dialogue kinda sucks but it is a good game.

If Okami were a RPG, I'd tell you to buy it without hesitation but it is not. Still worthwhile though.

Been playing Xenosaga Episode 1 lately. Mixed feelings about it but there seems to be a really deep plot to the whole series.
